Trine 6 release date is now 4 March 2027. Developer Frozenbyte and publisher Cooldown Games delayed Trine 6: Together in Time from its original 17 September 2026 date after reviewing feedback from a private playtest. The extra time is going into two distinct puzzle modes, more useful hero abilities and improvements to combat, camera controls and online play.

There’s already a free Steam demo, but it is not the finished adventure or the same build as the current private test. Frozenbyte’s next private playtest runs from 27 October until 2 November 2026, giving selected players a chance to try some of the big changes ahead of the March launch.

Trine 6 release date and why it was delayed

The confirmed Trine 6 release date is Thursday 4 March 2027. Frozenbyte announced the new date on 24 August, moving the game back from 17 September 2026. If you’re checking the Trine 6 release date on older trailers or storefront pages, you may still see September 2026. That is no longer the launch plan.

The first playtest uncovered two preferences: some players missed puzzles built around each hero’s abilities, while others liked the more flexible approach. Frozenbyte decided to support both styles across the campaign.

Classic and Freestyle Puzzle Modes explained

Classic Mode is built around choosing the right heroes and combining their abilities. Solo players may need to swap between characters to solve a puzzle, while co-op groups can divide those roles between friends. It’s closer to the traditional Trine approach, where a well-placed magical box or Zoya’s rope can make all the difference.

Freestyle Mode gives you more flexibility. Each player can take an active role, and the puzzles favour movement, timing and creative combinations rather than one required ability. Both modes are available throughout the campaign and can be changed during a playthrough. Switching mid-level reloads the latest checkpoint to place the alternative puzzles.

The delay gives the team more time to refine both modes. Combat difficulty remains a separate setting, so Classic puzzles do not automatically make enemies tougher.

What changes are coming to the five heroes?

Amadeus, Zoya and Pontius return alongside Moira and Adrius. Frozenbyte has confirmed some specific revisions following player feedback. Amadeus starts with free levitation and can conjure a plank; Pontius gets a magnetic hammer; and Moira can leave a trampoline for other heroes to use.

Those skills have a purpose in the puzzles: a plank helps someone cross a gap, while a trampoline gives a teammate a way up. The team is also improving tutorials, camera behaviour and the stability of online multiplayer before release.

Trine 6 release date and October private playtest

The second private playtest runs from 27 October to 2 November 2026. Frozenbyte is using it to test the new Classic and Freestyle puzzles, hero changes and co-op improvements. You can register for a chance to participate, but registration doesn’t automatically grant access.

Players who joined the earlier playtest were told they would be given access to the next build. The Trine 6 release date is still March 2027, so this short test isn’t general early access to the finished game.

Trine 6 release date, platforms and co-op modes

The game is planned for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Frozenbyte has said GOG support can launch alongside other versions thanks to the extra development time.

You can play alone or with up to four players through local couch co-op or online multiplayer. The five-character cast includes the familiar wizard, thief and knight as well as two new heroes. Both puzzle modes work in single-player and co-op, and the developer says their puzzle settings are separate from combat difficulty and hero selection rules.

How to play before the Trine 6 release date

Yes. The public Steam PC demo has been available since June 2026. It includes The Isle of Souls and The Hearty Quag, all five heroes and local or online co-op. It is a good way to see the game’s movement and puzzle style, but progress won’t transfer to the full adventure.

The current private playtest is a different experience intended to check newer changes. If you simply want to try the game without an invitation, see our Trine 6 demo guide for what’s included. The Trine 6 release date remains 4 March 2027, whatever build you choose to try now.

The extra months are being spent on two puzzle experiences and better multiplayer. For anyone who loved the old hero-specific puzzles, Classic Mode is the headline change; Freestyle is there for groups who want more freedom.
