Fortnite island thumbnail requirements 2026 changed on 22 October 2026. If you publish or update a Creative or UEFN island, you now need landscape and portrait artwork plus a transparent island name logo. The old approach of uploading just one landscape image isn’t enough.

You’ll need five files altogether: two landscape images at 1920 × 1080, two portraits at 1440 × 1920 and a 1440 × 608 logo. Here’s how those versions work together and what to check before sending your island for review.

The Fortnite island thumbnail requirements 2026 cover five promotional image slots. Two include your island’s name as part of the image, two contain artwork without text, and the final file is the separate transparent logo:

AssetExact dimensionsFormat
Landscape with art and logo1920 × 1080PNG/JPG
Landscape art only1920 × 1080PNG/JPG
Portrait with art and logo1440 × 1920PNG/JPG
Portrait art only1440 × 1920PNG/JPG
Island name logo1440 × 608Transparent PNG

Landscape images feature on Discover and Creator pages, while portrait images suit tall placements and mobile screens. The transparent name logo gives Fortnite the freedom to position your island’s branding over artwork when the tile design needs it.

What are the art-only and with-logo variants for?

The Fortnite island thumbnail requirements 2026 reflect how Discover displays an island in different layouts. The with-logo version is a finished image with the name included. The art-only version leaves that name out, allowing Fortnite to position your uploaded logo over the artwork.

Both versions can share the same scene. Leave a quieter space in the art-only image for the logo, and check that the name stays readable when the image is reduced to a small Discover tile.

Export your own island name mark as a transparent PNG, not a JPG with a white box behind it. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, but it should be recognisable and should use branding you have permission to use.

How much safe space do Fortnite thumbnails need?

Epic advises leaving roughly 200 pixels free at the top and bottom of a full-size landscape thumbnail. The interface can cover those edges, and Fortnite may trim or reposition your separate logo when it appears over the art-only image.

The Fortnite island thumbnail requirements 2026 work best when the title, main character and action aren’t crowded against the edges. Check both orientations at a reduced preview size before uploading them.

How to upload your files in Creator Portal

Open your island’s release in Creator Portal and go to Promotional Media. Upload both landscape versions, both portrait versions and the logo in their matching slots. The Fortnite island thumbnail requirements 2026 apply to updates as well as brand-new islands.

  • Export landscape artwork at 1920 × 1080 as PNG or JPG.
  • Export portrait artwork at 1440 × 1920 as PNG or JPG.
  • Export the island name logo at 1440 × 608 as a transparent PNG.
  • Check that the art-only images still read clearly with the logo overlaid.
  • Read the portal’s validation messages and complete the rest of the publishing form.

The Fortnite island thumbnail requirements 2026 apply to updates as well as new publications. If an older island previously used just one landscape thumbnail, prepare its portrait assets and logo before submitting the next update.

What if a Fortnite island still won’t publish?

If an upload fails, check the dimensions, orientation and transparency first. A portrait file in a landscape slot won’t do the job, and a flattened logo isn’t a transparent PNG. Read the actual Creator Portal warning to find the problem.

Alongside the Fortnite island thumbnail requirements 2026, Epic checks images for accuracy and originality. A thumbnail must reflect the gameplay, not copy another creator’s art. Similarity warnings can affect Discover visibility without always blocking publication; rules violations can still fail review.

Good art also helps people decide whether to play. For a racing island, show the track; for a parkour map, show the obstacles. It should look like the experience they’ll get when they load in.

Do you need a gameplay video or trailer to publish?

The October 22 update requires the still images and island logo, not a video. A trailer or unedited gameplay clip is optional for ordinary publishing, though a suitable General Audience trailer is needed for Hero carousel and Epic’s Picks eligibility. A video can’t replace missing thumbnails.

If you also want to add video, our Fortnite island gameplay video requirements guide explains what belongs in each slot. Once your images are ready, check that the title, description and artwork all represent the same experience.
