Romestead Strange Shards are the Halloween event items used to summon Pyzifax the Lemures, the special Mundus Cerialis boss. You earn one from each completed harvest offering given to the Ghostly Worshipper in town during October.
Strange Shards do not expire on October 31. Beartwigs confirms they remain usable even after the seasonal spirit leaves. Collecting them before the deadline lets you fight the Halloween boss later without rushing your equipment preparation.
Romestead Strange Shards: How to get them

1. Defeat Pyzifax in the desert. The Ghostly Worshipper only visits once the original Pyzifax is dead in that world and you have an established town with a Town Core. Beating the Cyclops is not required for this event trigger.
2. Wait until the following in-game day. Return to your settlement and find the spirit close to the Town Core. It provides the repeatable Mundus Cerialis harvest quest.
3. Bring the crops. Bring the following crops for one shard. Keep them in your character’s inventory, not in town storage.
| Ingredient | Amount per offering |
|---|---|
| Wheat | 40 |
| Cabbage | 20 |
| Olives | 20 |
| Grapes | 20 |
| Apples | 10 |
4. Complete the offering again for another shard. Each full hand-in awards one of the Romestead Strange Shards. Repeat the quest to build up more boss attempts before the October 31 deadline.
How to use Romestead Strange Shards
Take a shard into the outdoor overworld and activate it from your inventory. The sky becomes dark, the chat announces Defectus Lunae, and Pyzifax the Lemures appears near your character.
Romestead Strange Shards cannot be used inside buildings or dungeons, or while another Lemures encounter is already active in the world. If nothing happens when you use one, go outdoors and check whether another player has already summoned the boss.
Each shard is single-use, has a two-minute cooldown and stacks up to 20. Game-data documentation also lists two alternative uses: selling a shard for 500 or offering it to Ceres for 100 worship. Save any shards you want to use for the Halloween boss.
Do Romestead Strange Shards work after Halloween ends?
Yes. The October 27 Beartwigs announcement explicitly says shards will still function after the spirit leaves. What ends on October 31, 2026 is the ability to earn more through the Ghostly Worshipper’s seasonal quest.
You can collect shards while the quest is available, then prepare your armour, weapons, food and potions before fighting. There’s no need to use the summons immediately.
Beartwigs expects the event to return in 2027 with additional rewards. It hasn’t supplied a specific return date or promised that leftover shards will gain different effects, so save them for the existing Halloween fight.
What happens if you leave a Strange Shard boss fight?
The version 0.26.2_4 game-data breakdown records an escape route: if every player leaves the overworld for four seconds, the fight ends and a replacement Strange Shard drops where the boss stood. Anyone collecting it will need to return to that spot.
Pyzifax the Lemures can teleport towards players in the overworld who try to escape normally. If you intend to fight, move into a clear area before activating Romestead Strange Shards and have potions ready.
Can you get all four Halloween equipment items?
The boss can award one of four event equipment pieces. Community game data identifies Crash Helmet, Scroll of Hatred, Crippling Tower and Blades of the Bat, with one equipment reward per successful kill. The official patch notes confirm four items but do not publish their full drop table.
Each kill gives one randomly selected event item, with a documented 25% chance for each. You can receive duplicates, so collecting all four may take more than four victories. Our Halloween boss guide covers their effects and the battle strategy.
The only part you need to complete before Halloween ends is earning Romestead Strange Shards from the visiting spirit. Any you save will still summon Pyzifax the Lemures in November.
