Cairn Best Routes for Beginners are short, community-named climbs on Tenzen that teach the skills needed for Mount Kami. Start with What A Fall or Mini Cellar, then move to Tower Power and Le Hard Corner as your balance improves.

These routes have community difficulty grades rather than fixed, developer-set unlock requirements. Cairn lets you solve a wall using different holds, so use the names to find an approachable climb and choose your own line.

Cairn Best Routes: What A Fall

What A Fall is a community-rated 3a route on the right side of the Tenzen waterfall. It’s a good place to practise normal movement without a long climb or elaborate equipment requirements.

Look for a useful foot position before reaching higher. Repeat the climb with a different starting hold so you learn how body position changes the difficulty. That’s a better way to understand the wall than memorising one exact input sequence.

Mini Cellar: Practise an Overhang

Mini Cellar is another 3a route, with a short inverted or overhanging section. It introduces what happens when the rock leans away from Aava and her arms carry more of the load.

Try to keep your feet active and make deliberate movements. A stable position can be more useful than a large reach that exhausts the climber before the next hold.

Tower Power: A Pillar Near Honey Cave

Tower Power is a community 3a+ climb on a pillar near the honey cave. It teaches you to inspect more than one side of a rock formation before choosing where to start.

Walk around the base and look for accessible holds. A route around the edge can be easier than a direct move up the front. Cairn Best Routes often reward a little exploration before the first handhold.

Le Hard Corner: Learn Arête Climbing

Le Hard Corner is rated roughly 3b+ and lies near Tenzen’s waterfall. It introduces climbing around an arête, using the edge between two rock faces for hand and foot support.

Experiment with holding opposite sides of the edge. Keep feet supported as you move around the corner, and don’t force the next grip if your current posture feels unstable.

The Bee’s Knees and Catcher’s Tango

The Bee’s Knees is around 3b and offers a beginner-friendly overhang near the honey cave. Catcher’s Tango, around 3b+, combines several movement types.

These are good follow-ups once vertical climbs feel natural. Cairn Best Routes don’t require a fixed hand-by-hand pattern, so you can choose different holds if one sequence isn’t working.

Harder Routes to Avoid at First

Undertow and Shinobi are much harder Tenzen routes according to community grading. Save those until you can manage difficult holds, technical overhangs and moving without losing your balance immediately.

Explorer and Alpinist include Fall Rewind, allowing you to practise a move again after a fall. Use that help to learn why a position failed rather than rushing back into the same problem.

Cairn Best Routes on Mount Kami

On the main mountain, plan the next stretch using Remote View and bivouacs. Look for ledges, safer footholds and places to secure pitons before an exposed section. The shortest route isn’t always the most comfortable.

Cairn Best Routes suit your available gear and current ability. Our Mount Kami guide explains the named areas, while the equipment guide covers pitons, chalk and finger tape for more demanding climbs.
