Cairn Deep Water Areas are Haken, Ruka and Lamu, the three new locations arriving with the free October 29 DLC. Haken and Ruka are sea cliffs where players can climb above water, while Lamu is an indoor gym.

These locations are smaller than Mount Kami, but the new limited-energy mechanic makes every climb a fresh challenge. Here’s what each area contains and how the new water-soloing routes differ from the original mountain.

All Three Cairn Deep Water Areas

The official DLC page names Haken, Ruka and Lamu. Haken and Ruka are cliff-climbing locations above the sea, while Lamu is a climbing gym filled with technical problems. All three belong to the free On the Trail: Deep Water DLC.

They’re smaller than the full Mount Kami ascent, designed for shorter challenges. Instead of following a single prescribed line, you choose your own route through the holds and try to reach the end without wasting your limited energy.

Haken Cliffs: Water Soloing

Haken is a sea-cliff location where climbing takes place above water. The DLC introduces water soloing, so a fall into the water isn’t punished like a dangerous fall from high on Mount Kami. That creates room to experiment with unfamiliar overhangs.

The safest approach is still to read the face from below. Check which grips can support a pause, where the wall leans away from the climber and whether your planned sequence forces an exhausting stretch before the next rest point.

Ruka Cliffs: Overwater Routes

Ruka is the second named sea-cliff location. Like Haken, it features exposed rock and overhangs over water, but the developers describe each area as containing fresh climbing problems rather than copies of existing Mount Kami walls.

Look for several possible lines instead of a single route marker. A longer line with stable footholds can use less energy than a shorter route made up of awkward reaches. Water makes trying again safer, but it doesn’t make a bad position easier to hold.

Lamu Climbing Gym

The third of the Cairn Deep Water Areas is Lamu, an indoor gym. The Game Bakers calls out its new climbing problems, making it useful for practising position, control and technical sequences without a long outdoor ascent.

Lamu is also a natural place to compare Aava with newly playable Marco. Their height, flexibility and reach differ, so attempting the same problem with both climbers should help reveal why a hold that feels straightforward to one character may demand a new approach from the other.

Cairn Deep Water Areas: Energy Limits

Deep Water places a limited energy allowance on individual climbs. According to the developer, effort and mistakes drain the available amount, so the difficulty is not just in avoiding falls. A poorly chosen route can leave too little energy to finish.

Plan the climb before you start: identify solid footholds, look for overhangs and think about which hand will have to reach next. During a difficult move, try correcting one limb rather than repeatedly swinging between grips.

Do You Have to Unlock Haken or Ruka?

Haken, Ruka and Lamu are the three Cairn Deep Water Areas included with the free DLC. Install the add-on through your platform store and update Cairn before opening its new challenges. They are separate from Mount Kami.

Choose between the Cairn Deep Water Areas according to the climb you want to practise. Lamu has indoor problems, while Haken and Ruka have overwater overhangs. Our energy guide explains how to approach these short climbs.

Are Cairn Deep Water Areas on Mount Kami?

No. The Cairn Deep Water Areas are new destinations connected to Aava and Marco’s training, not places hidden on the mountain. The Free Roam update is what returns you to Mount Kami.

If you’re looking to replay an old rock face, use Free Roam. If you want the new Lamu gym or water soloing at Haken and Ruka, use the Deep Water content. The two features arrive together but serve different search intents.

Official game: The Game Bakers, Cairn.
