Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe and Squawkscythe: Forge, Upgrade and Styles

Monster Hunter Now Squawkscythe official weapon render

Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe returns for Halloween 2026 as a Dragon-element Long Sword, and upgrading it leads to a different name: Squawkscythe. The official Season 11 Wave 2 announcement confirms that Cawscythe becomes Squawkscythe at Grade 6. If you’re searching the forge for a separate Squawkscythe recipe, start with Cawscythe instead.

Cawscythe is the weapon you forge; Squawkscythe is what you end up with after upgrading. The Halloween event also makes upgrades cheaper until November 15 and adds style customisation for the Grade 8 version. Here’s how to collect the tickets, reach each milestone and decide whether this Dragon Long Sword deserves your materials.

How to forge Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe

To forge Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe when Halloween begins on October 26 at 9 AM local time, earn Reissue Halloween Forging Tickets from the MH Now Halloween 2026 I Special Quests. Finish the game’s prologue if you haven’t already, then check the quest list and complete the available objectives. Black Diablos and Aurora Somnacanth are confirmed quest targets, though the developer hasn’t published every objective or the quantity awarded for each stage.

With the necessary tickets, find Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe in the Equipment forge. The same forging-ticket category is used for the Halloween style-customisation overview and returning Halloween armour, so look over the recipes before spending everything. Our main Monster Hunter Now Halloween 2026 guide has the full event schedule and monster rotation.

How Cawscythe becomes Squawkscythe at Grade 6

At Grade 6, Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe changes its name to Squawkscythe. The developer confirmed the Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe name change in its Season 11 Wave 2 announcement. You don’t need a second forging recipe or a different set of tickets to obtain Squawkscythe. Forge Cawscythe and keep upgrading the same Long Sword. That also explains why the Halloween forging-ticket list names Cawscythe while the style-customisation announcement names Squawkscythe.

To upgrade Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe through its levels and overgrades, use Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets. These are guaranteed rewards from slaying large monsters or completing Elder Dragon Interceptions during Halloween. They’re also included among certain quest and Exchange Hub rewards. Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe has no published 2026 forging cost in the announcement, so the 2026 announcement hasn’t published the exact forging cost or a grade-by-grade ticket table. Once Halloween begins, the Equipment screen will show the required amount for your next upgrade.

From October 26 to November 15, the material requirements for Halloween gear are reduced. Some upgrades can be completed using tickets without zenny or gathered materials; other steps may still require monster materials. After November 15, those event upgrade tickets stop being required, but the regular material costs increase. See the Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets guide for every confirmed source and deadline.

What type of weapon is Cawscythe or Squawkscythe?

Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe is a Dragon-element Long Sword, first introduced in the 2024 Halloween event. The original announcement lists Power Prolonger Lv2 when upgraded to Grade 8. This skill extends the duration of the Long Sword’s powered-up state, so it supports a playstyle built around maintaining the Spirit Gauge. These stats come from the original weapon announcement; you can compare them against the upgraded weapon screen when Halloween returns.

Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe originally used Spooky Tickets in 2024. The 2026 event uses Reissue Halloween Forging Tickets to forge the weapon and Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets to upgrade it. Older ticket totals therefore aren’t a reliable shopping list for this Halloween. If you want a Paralysis Hunting Horn with group-support melodies instead, the style-customisation guide covers the other Halloween weapon line.

How to unlock Squawkscythe style customisation

Style customisation is confirmed for Squawkscythe in Halloween 2026. For Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe in its Squawkscythe form, the normal unlock requires an eligible weapon at Grade 8 and 8★ large monsters unlocked on the field. First forge Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe, then upgrade it through the Grade 6 Squawkscythe name change to Grade 8. Open Equipment, select the upgraded weapon and enter Style Customization. Raise its style level using Upgrade, then use Select Style once you’ve met the available choice’s requirements.

For Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe after it becomes Squawkscythe, two seasonal materials have different jobs. Halloween 2026 Style Customization Material increases style level; Halloween 2026 Style Unlock Material unlocks style and parameter selection. Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets can also increase style levels, but they’re not the same as unlock materials. The Halloween Weapon Style Customization guide explains the distinction and links to the wider system.

Both special style materials can drop from 8★ or higher large monsters, while Elder Dragon Interceptions award them as guaranteed rewards. The Halloween 2026 Pass is another named source. The Halloween announcement doesn’t provide Squawkscythe’s exact style options, individual material costs or parameter values. The standard system makes style selection available at customisation Lv5, with further parameter choices at later levels; check the live menu for the choices on this weapon before spending materials.

How to farm upgrade and style materials efficiently

There are two farming goals for Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe, depending on your current grade. For the early Grade 6 climb, hunt large monsters you can defeat consistently to build up guaranteed weapon upgrade tickets. Once you’re aiming for Grade 8 and styles, give priority to successful 8★ hunts or Elder Dragon Interceptions, which add a route to the special materials. A 7★ hunt can still be useful for ordinary tickets, but it isn’t listed as a source of the new style materials.

While farming with Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe, try to break parts during hunts. Halloween doubles part-break rewards, and the Jack-o’-Head Partbreaker guide explains the additional seasonal bonus when you wear that armour properly. The Halloween exchange-token guide shows why your part breaks can also help pay for exchange rewards. For Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe, no per-monster drop-rate advantage has been confirmed, so completing several manageable hunts is a better plan than repeatedly failing a difficult one.

Is Squawkscythe worth upgrading for Base Defense?

Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe and its Squawkscythe upgrade have an additional purpose after Halloween. From November 16 to 22, the Riftcharged Zinogre Base Defense lists Cawscythe/Squawkscythe among its featured defense weapons. It offers a 60% Defense Points bonus during that activity, the same announced bonus as Skullwhistle. Defense Points are not ordinary attack damage, so this isn’t a blanket 60% damage boost in all hunts.

Halloween’s temporary equipment combat boosts end November 8, a week before the lower-cost upgrade period closes on November 15. If you’re making Monster Hunter Now Cawscythe for Base Defense, that last week is still useful for finishing the weapon. If you’re also collecting Mysterious Driftstone V or tokens for the Harvest Cloak, make those hunts before the November 8 event deadline. You can spend existing exchange tokens until November 15.
