Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle: How to Forge, Upgrade and Unlock Styles

Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle official weapon render

Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle returns on October 26 for Halloween 2026, with cheaper upgrades and a new way to customise its fighting style. The Paralysis Hunting Horn is earned through the first Halloween quests, then improved using tickets from hunts. If you want to try its new styles, you’ll need to take it to Grade 8.

Skullwhistle has always had a good reason to exist beyond its Halloween appearance: its Earplugs (L) melody can help a group fight through monster roars. This year there’s another incentive to build it, too. The horn is a featured weapon for the November Zinogre Base Defense, where it earns bonus Defense Points. Here’s how to prepare it without mixing up forging tickets, upgrade tickets and style materials.

How to get Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle in Halloween 2026

Start with MH Now Halloween 2026 I, which begins at 9 AM local time on October 26. After completing the prologue, you’ll find the event quests in the Special Quests tab. Their rewards include Reissue Halloween Forging Tickets. Claim the tickets you earn and open the Equipment forge to see the Skullwhistle recipe.

The quests are confirmed to feature Black Diablos and Aurora Somnacanth, but the full objective list and the exact forging ticket cost haven’t been published ahead of launch. The recipe in Equipment will show what you still need. If you’re deciding where to spend your tickets, remember that they also forge Cawscythe, Jack-o’-Head and Ghost Balloon. You can check those alongside the wider Halloween 2026 schedule and the Ghost Balloon forging guide.

Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle forging quests run until November 8 at 11:59 PM local time. That’s the deadline for completing those quests and claiming their rewards; you don’t have to finish the weapon’s cheaper upgrades by the same date.

Upgrading Skullwhistle and farming weapon tickets

Once you’ve forged Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle, the next job is collecting Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets. These are guaranteed rewards for slaying large monsters and for slaying or repelling elder dragons in Elder Dragon Interceptions. You can also get them from certain Halloween quests and the Event Exchange Hub. Unlike style materials, an 8★ monster isn’t required for the ordinary upgrade-ticket drop.

Until November 15 at 11:59 PM local time, some grades can be reached using Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets without paying zenny or spending gathering materials. Higher steps may still call for monster materials, so look at the recipe for your next upgrade before committing to a long farming session. The announcement doesn’t give a complete grade-by-grade ticket cost. A 2025 recipe won’t necessarily match 2026.

When the cheaper upgrade period ends, Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets are no longer required, but the amounts and types of ordinary materials needed go up. If you’re pushing the weapon towards Grade 8, it pays to get as far as you can before November 15. Our Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets guide goes into the sources and timings.

Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle skills and best uses

Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle is a Paralysis Hunting Horn with Shared Sword Lv3, as identified in its original 2025 announcement. Its Earplugs (L) melody can help other hunters resist roars, giving a group more time to attack when a monster would normally interrupt everyone. Combined with the chance to inflict Paralysis, that makes it most appealing if you enjoy supporting other players rather than chasing a solo damage ranking.

The developer’s 2025 example paired Skullwhistle with Bishaten Helm and Coil, Bazelgeuse Mail and Greaves, and Espinas Vambraces. It was shown for fighting Brute Tigrex and included skills such as Shared Sword and Paralysis Exploit. Treat it as a demonstration of how the horn plays; it isn’t a tested best-in-slot set for every 2026 hunt.

If you’re comparing Halloween weapons, Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle is the support-oriented option. Cawscythe is a Dragon Long Sword that becomes Squawkscythe at Grade 6. They are two weapon lines with different moves and elements, so choose the one you want to play, especially if you have limited forging tickets.

How to unlock Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle weapon styles

Skullwhistle is explicitly eligible for style customisation in the 2026 event. First, upgrade the weapon to Grade 8 and unlock 8★ monsters on the field. With those conditions met, open Equipment, select Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle and enter Style Customization. From there, you can use Upgrade to raise the style level and Select Style to choose an available fighting style when you meet its requirements.

The seasonal materials do different jobs. Halloween 2026 Style Customization Material raises style level; Halloween 2026 Style Unlock Material unlocks style selection or parameter selection but cannot increase the level. Halloween Weapon Upgrade Tickets can also help with style levels. The standard system usually opens style selection at customisation Lv5, with further stat choices at later levels.

Specific 2026 Skullwhistle style options and exact material costs haven’t been listed in the Halloween announcement. Compare the choices in the weapon’s own menu once they appear rather than spending materials based on an unconfirmed recommendation. The Halloween weapon style-customisation guide covers these resources in more detail; the Halloween Pass is another official source of the two special materials.

Which hunts should you farm for Skullwhistle?

For regular Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle upgrades, the quickest reliable approach is to hunt large monsters you can finish consistently. Each successful large-monster hunt gives an upgrade ticket, and the developer hasn’t announced different ticket rates for individual species. If you can clear three easier hunts in the time one difficult hunt takes, the easier route makes more sense for that resource.

For Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle style materials, the target changes. 8★ or higher large monsters have a chance to drop them, while completed Elder Dragon Interceptions guarantee them. Elder Dragon Interceptions also award upgrade tickets, so they’re useful when you’re building the horn and its styles together. No official exact 8★ drop percentage is available yet, so a claimed ‘fastest monster’ would be speculation.

Breaking parts gives you more from the same hunts. The Halloween event doubles part-break rewards, and the Jack-o’-Head armour guide explains its boosted Partbreaker (Halloween) effect when you equip the actual armour piece. Breaking parts can also earn Halloween exchange tokens, which helps pay for other seasonal rewards.

Skullwhistle’s 60% Base Defense bonus in November

Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle has another purpose after the main Halloween event. During Riftcharged Zinogre Base Defense, November 16–22, it’s one of the featured defense weapons and earns a 60% Defense Points bonus. This is a Base Defense scoring benefit, not a 60% increase to its attack damage in normal hunts.

The weapon’s temporary Halloween combat boost ends on November 8, but its lower upgrade costs continue through November 15. If Base Defense matters to you, use that extra week to finish upgrades. You should farm Mysterious Driftstone V before November 8, since the Halloween driftstone bonus doesn’t last into the following week.

When does Monster Hunter Now Skullwhistle leave the event?

The forging quests and featured Halloween hunts run October 26–November 8. Reduced upgrade requirements continue through November 15, and the Zinogre Base Defense runs November 16–22. Halloween event equipment can return at a later date, but there is no confirmed date for another Skullwhistle reissue. All stated event times are local.
