Once Human Offshore Production: Trawl Nets, Cages and Oil

Once Human Offshore Production turns your vessel into more than transport. Trawl Nets gather fish as you sail, Tidal Cages breed fish at a fixed location, and Drilling Wells collect abyssal sea oil. Each solves a different supply problem, so the best first upgrade depends on how you use your ship.

The October 21 Isles of Abyss patch confirms these systems and the ways they interact. Check the Tech node and crafting station for the facilities you want. Once Human Offshore Production is easiest to build around one shortage at a time, starting with fish or oil.

Once Human Offshore Production: equipment and uses

There are three ways to automate supplies: fit a trawl to a moving ship, breed fish in stationary cages, or extract oil with a Drilling Well. Later Tech unlocks expand the automated resource options.

How Trawl Nets work in Once Human Offshore Production

Equip a Trawl Net through your ship and the relevant ocean Tech facilities, then sail across the surface. The net has a chance to catch fish as the vessel moves. Not getting a fish on one short crossing doesn’t mean the equipment isn’t functioning.

The Advanced Trawl improves the haul and can also salvage floating supplies. An Abundant Fishing Talisman boosts trawl-net efficiency. Your catches will vary between voyages, so don’t plan supplies around a guaranteed return.

Trawl fishing is different from actively casting the Abyssal Sea Fishing Rod. The rod requires a dedicated fishing interaction, while the net collects during travel. If you’re looking for sharks, tuna and the rod mechanic, use the separate Deep-Sea Fishing guide after it is published.

Once Human Offshore Production: breeding fish in Tidal Cages

If you would rather maintain a fixed operation, a Tidal Cage is the equipment to consider. Put it in the water where the building system permits and follow its breeding interface. The Advanced Tidal Cage reduces the breeding cycle once its Tech is available.

Tidal Cages suit a settled base, where you can return regularly and collect the fish. If you’re spending most of your time sailing, a Trawl Net makes better use of the journeys you’re already taking.

Once Human Offshore Production: Drilling Wells and fuel

A Drilling Well extracts abyssal sea oil for your production chain. As you progress through Tech, you can also unlock facilities that collect some special materials automatically.

Black Tide Fuel can increase a Generator’s electricity capacity or a Fuel Propeller’s maximum speed. Check the relevant Tech and processing facility when you need more power or faster sailing.

What to build first for Once Human Offshore Production

Before any advanced facility, get a boat you can control and a dependable way to supply food, Hydration and repairs. Once you can travel safely, look at what you’re short of. A Trawl Net helps during voyages; a cage suits a developed home base; oil production is more useful once you need extra power.

The ocean scenario ties equipment access to Tech progression, even for characters who enter at maximum level. Don’t plan around a high-tier cage or propeller until you’ve unlocked its actual blueprint and facilities. The Ship Building guide covers your first vessel and its propulsion options.

If you’re short of ordinary crafting materials, gathering regional Isles of Abyss Resources may be more useful than upgrading a net. You might need Tidal Gum, Black Tide Clots or Skyfire Gold for a completely different system. The Haywire Zones guide explains the protective gear for those trips.

How to protect an offshore setup

Once Human Offshore Production isn’t much help if a hostile encounter prevents you getting home. Carry repair materials and leave space to store the fish or supplies you collect. Watch for Voyager Ships during crossings, because some can be attacked or boarded for loot.

The update also includes the Time-Reverse Welding Torch for damaged structures, territory repair equipment and protection systems. Those are useful later when your ship has equipment worth maintaining. Don’t confuse an advanced naval combat loadout with the basic requirements for a fishing voyage.

The Calamity Towers and scenario starting guide cover larger goals. Build your first production system for the materials you need right now, and expand it after testing how well it fits your route.

Why your offshore equipment might not collect anything

If your net stops catching fish, make sure it is equipped and the ship is moving across the surface. For a cage, confirm that its water placement and breeding requirements are satisfied. For a Drilling Well, verify its Tech and operation requirements. Trawl catches are chance-based; a short empty voyage can be normal.

Once Human Offshore Production complements what you already do: fish during sailing, breed fish at a settled site, and collect oil when your power needs increase. Start with the right facility for your routine, then invest in better machinery when your supplies and Tech are ready.
