Once Human Ocean Cleanup is a new Isles of Abyss event where you collect Old Iron Buckets from the sea and beaches. Each bucket you clean contributes to cumulative event progress, unlocking rewards and giving you a chance to obtain gifts from Mr. Wish – Penguin Hope.
Search the sea surface while sailing and check beaches whenever you land. Pick up Old Iron Buckets when the event interaction appears, then use the Ocean Cleanup event screen to collect milestone rewards.
How to start Once Human Ocean Cleanup
Join an Isles of Abyss scenario server. Ocean Cleanup is exclusive to this scenario, so it won’t appear in other Once Human modes. If you cannot enter the ocean scenario, the joining guide explains scenario selection and registration.
Once you are in Isles of Abyss, look for Old Iron Buckets on beaches and the water’s surface. Use the interaction offered by the game to clean the buckets you find. The event tracks cumulative progress from buckets collected, so it is a collection activity rather than a boss encounter.

Once Human Ocean Cleanup: where to find Old Iron Buckets
| Search area | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Beach shoreline | Old Iron Buckets washed onto coastal ground |
| Sea surface | Old Iron Buckets floating on the ocean |
| Other scenarios | Ocean Cleanup is unavailable outside Isles of Abyss |
For Once Human Ocean Cleanup, beaches and the sea surface are the places to search. The patch notes do not name a particular island with guaranteed buckets or specify how often individual collection spots refresh. Search along unfamiliar stretches of coast and watch for floating buckets during voyages instead of circling one cleared beach.
A built ship makes it easier to reach several islands on one trip. The Ship Building guide covers how to create, summon and relocate a vessel. Take enough supplies for the journey rather than turning a routine cleanup run into a dangerous open-water trip.
How Once Human Ocean Cleanup rewards work
Each bucket cleaned adds to event progress. Hitting the specified cumulative milestones unlocks rewards, with chances to obtain Penguin Hope’s gifts. That doesn’t mean every bucket guarantees a Penguin Hope reward, and no reliable per-bucket percentage is published in the official announcement.
Open the live event screen to check your current total and available rewards. The patch notes don’t reproduce the complete numerical milestone table, so trust the current in-game display for claim requirements and prize quantities. If a milestone is ready, inspect whether the event offers a claim control.
The cleanup rewards are separate from the 10,000 Starchrom mailbox package. You can claim the launch gift without collecting buckets, while Once Human Ocean Cleanup requires you to participate in the scenario.
Is Ocean Cleanup the same as beachcombing?
No. Beachcombing is a general shoreline system where you interact with sand holes, bubbling spots, reef crevices and drift bottles. It can lead to supplies, ship blueprints or treasure maps. Ocean Cleanup specifically asks for Old Iron Buckets and counts them toward the event.
You can combine both activities on a coastal trip. Look for bucket objects, then inspect nearby beachcombing clues while you are already there. Some areas have special hazards; consult the Haywire Zones guide when planning a route through mist, Black Tide or extreme weather.

What if Once Human Ocean Cleanup isn’t counting?
Make sure you collected an Old Iron Bucket, not ordinary Ocean Trash or a different shore resource. Those materials have separate crafting uses. Confirm you’re on an Isles of Abyss server and check the event progress indicator after a pickup.
If the total still hasn’t changed, collect another Old Iron Bucket and inspect the event screen. Ordinary Ocean Trash is a different item and won’t count.
When does the event end?
Once Human Ocean Cleanup launched on October 21; check its own event panel for an end-date countdown. The November 11 Halloween Wonder Night date and November 8 Starchrom mail deadline belong to separate activities. Check the cleanup event’s own countdown if it appears in-game.
For this activity, the useful loop is simple: enter Isles of Abyss, search beaches and the ocean surface for Old Iron Buckets, collect them and check cumulative progress. While travelling, Voyagers and Calamity Towers have different combat rewards and don’t replace the bucket objective.
