Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression replaces conventional levelling with a system that unlocks equipment rarity, Mod attributes, ship upgrades and production facilities as you explore. Your character begins the scenario at max level, but that doesn’t give you every crafting tier. You’ll need to develop Tech as well as gather supplies.
On Fragrant Cape, gather food and basic repair materials before opening Build Mode. A ship that can return from nearby islands is worth more at the start than a high-tier weapon you cannot yet craft. The Tech tree then opens diving protection, stronger ship equipment and better personal gear.
Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression: the rules at a glance

| Ships and facilities | Further equipment unlocks through Tech | Inspect current Tech tree for available requirements |
What to unlock first in Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression
First, gather enough coastal materials to support food, repairs and basic equipment. The patch notes identify shells, conches, ocean trash, seafood and other shoreline resources with different uses. Those supplies are useful immediately, even before you have a specialised combat loadout.
Second, build your first ship in Build Mode and learn how to save it as a Design Layout. You can summon or relocate your ship after construction, making it a practical mobile base for the archipelago. The Ship Building guide covers those controls, cannon options and when to upgrade.
Third, use the Tech tree to improve your weakest system. If you’ve been forced to turn back from diving, look at protective equipment. If ship construction is holding you back, focus on relevant facilities and materials. If you’re ready for harder combat, upgrade crafting rarity and Mod capabilities before chasing difficult rewards.
Open the Tech tree and find the facility or equipment you need next. Food and repairs come first, followed by sailing and diving gear. Save advanced combat upgrades for when you can support longer expeditions.
Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression: Blueprint and Mod limits
Your existing Blueprints carry into Isles of Abyss, but the Tech tree limits the rarity you can craft. Owning a Legendary Blueprint doesn’t mean you can make the Legendary item on your first day.
That applies to the free SOCR Cosmic Visitor and Snowline Elite Vest blueprints. You can collect the launch mail without defeating a boss, but actually crafting your preferred gear still depends on equipment unlocks and materials.
Mods carry over too, but only some attributes are active until you develop the relevant Tech. If your usual build feels weak, check those unlocked attributes before swapping every Mod.
Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression: ships and production
Trawl Nets catch fish while you sail. Advanced Trawls also recover some floating supplies, while Tidal Cages support fish breeding and Drilling Wells extract abyssal sea oil. Invest in whichever system solves the shortage holding you back.
Black Tide Fuel can support a Generator and Fuel Propeller, raising electrical capacity and propeller speed limits. These systems help explain why Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression should involve more than personal weapon upgrades. A better supply chain allows you to maintain a more capable ship for longer excursions.

Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression: when to fight bosses
Once you have a ship, reserve supplies and a reliable combat setup, you can begin trying the Voyager encounters. Their sizes and facilities affect difficulty and Loot Crate rewards. Do not assume a large Voyager will be manageable just because you began this scenario at maximum level.
The Calamity Tower system becomes active with World Progress. First clears advance the server and send rewards to the whole server, so working with other players is worthwhile. The Sunken Lord belongs to later progression as purification advances in Phase II.
Troubleshooting Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression
If you cannot craft an item, check whether you’re looking at a Tech restriction, an unmet prerequisite or missing ingredients. If Mod bonuses don’t behave as expected, inspect the current active-attribute allowance. Character level alone won’t fix either limitation.
For environmental problems, see Haywire Zones. For server selection and phases, see How to Join. The launch’s free 10,000 Starchrom mail is worth claiming, but it isn’t an alternative to developing your Tech tree.
Once Human Isles of Abyss Tech Progression works best as a series of small goals: build something useful, gather what the next upgrade needs and test it on a short expedition before pushing farther into the archipelago.
