Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning lets you pin up to 22 items so they appear ahead of the rest of your bag. Added in the October 21, 2026 update, pinned items have a gilded outline and can be unpinned at any time. There is one restriction: only one item of each type can be pinned.
That is useful when you keep returning to the same supplies instead of scrolling through a crowded inventory. Players have also found a snag with used-up consumable stacks, particularly Monster Essences. Here is how to find the new controls, replace a pin and work around that issue.
How to use Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning
Open your character’s Inventory, select an item and find its pin action. Once the pin is applied, the item is moved to a priority position and gains a gold-coloured border. That outline is the easiest way to tell whether Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning has worked.
The patch notes identify Inventory as the place to do this, but do not give a button name or controller shortcut for each platform. Follow the on-screen controls on PC or mobile; an older button guide may not match your current interface. You do not need to finish Hallows Phantom or unlock Inferno XV to access the feature.

How to unpin and replace an item
Return to Inventory, select the pinned item and remove its pin. The gilded outline disappears and the item goes back into normal inventory order. You can then pin something more useful. Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning does not lock you into the first 22 things you choose, and you can keep fewer than 22 pinned.
If another item refuses to pin, first look for an existing gold outline on an item of the same type. Remove that pin and try the replacement. The one-per-type limit applies even if you have plenty of empty pin positions left. Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning has both an overall cap and a same-type restriction.
Why Monster Essence pins can disappear
On October 22, players reported that a pinned Monster Essence stack loses its pin after the full stack has been handed in. A newly collected stack must then be pinned again. This is a reported behaviour in the live game, not part of Blizzard’s original explanation of Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning.
The issue was raised in an October 22 player discussion, where a reply from the account jadaiyuki said the feedback had been shared. No fix date was announced in that exchange. If you use Monster Essences to track your progress towards ten, check whether the pin is still there after turning them in.
Another player suggested opening your portrait, then Profile and Bestiary, to see the current Monster Essence count without hunting through the bag. That is a community workaround, not a new menu path confirmed in the official patch notes. For now, Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning won’t automatically preserve the spot of a consumed stack according to those reports.
Does pinning protect items from selling or salvaging?
Blizzard describes this as a sorting feature, not a protection feature. The announcement does not say a pin blocks salvaging, selling or consuming an item. Check normal prompts before disposing of anything valuable. Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning is for easier access, not an alternative to item safeguards.
The maximum of 22 is also not extra inventory space. It is the number of items whose position can be prioritised. Gear systems such as Legacy Loyalty Points or Secondary Item Rank 30 deal with progression rather than bag arrangement.

What to check if pinning isn’t working
First, check that you have not reached 22 pinned items or already pinned something else of the same type. Those are the two restrictions Blizzard confirms. If you can see the pin option but another selection will not stay, remove the existing pin before trying again.
If the option is missing altogether, confirm the October update is installed. Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning arrived after the October 20 maintenance for European servers and October 21 maintenance for American servers; it was not assigned a separate later start date. A consumed Monster Essence stack losing its pin is a different issue from the feature being unavailable.
Use Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning for the items you need to spot quickly, particularly ones you check between activities. Pinned items do not affect combat stats, reward currencies or equipment upgrades. The separate Long March campaign uses Skeletal Spoils, while Challenge Rift Season 21 and Legendary Gem Priority Drop cover unrelated progression questions.
Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning: limits at a glance
| Question | Confirmed answer |
|---|---|
| Where is it? | Inventory screen |
| Maximum pinned items | 22 |
| Can two items of one type be pinned? | No |
| How do pins look? | Gilded outline |
| Can you remove a pin? | Yes, at any time |
| Does it add bag slots? | No |
| What happens to exhausted stacks? | Players report needing to pin replacement stacks again |
Diablo Immortal Inventory Pinning makes frequently used items easier to find, but the Monster Essence reports show that an item disappearing can take its pin with it. If you are relying on a pinned consumable stack, check it again after using the last item. Until that behaviour is addressed, re-pinning is the straightforward workaround.
