Planet Zoo 2 animals list covers all 136 unique species recorded in the launch Zoopedia, including terrestrial mammals and reptiles, flying birds, fish, sharks and smaller exhibit creatures. Six are exclusive to Deluxe Edition. Use the category tables to check which type of enclosure each species needs before you spend money building it.
The figures can look confusing at first because sixteen fish appear in both aquarium and exhibit categories. Those are not extra animals: the same fish can be housed in two different ways. Below you’ll find the full roster arranged by enclosure, with Deluxe species labelled separately, and advice on why an animal may still be locked in Franchise Mode.
Planet Zoo 2 animals list: 136 species by enclosure
There are 57 terrestrial habitat species, 12 flying aviary birds, 37 aquarium species and 46 exhibit entries. Sixteen fish belong to both the aquarium and exhibit selections, giving the game 136 distinct launch species rather than the sum of all four category counts. The Planet Zoo 2 animals list counts those fish once in its headline total.
| Enclosure | Entries |
|---|---|
| Terrestrial habitat | 57 |
| Flying aviary | 12 |
| Aquarium | 37 |
| Exhibit | 46 |
Planet Zoo 2 animals list: all 57 terrestrial animals
Terrestrial species live in traditional animal habitats, including animals that need pools or climbing structures within their enclosures. African Penguin and Common Ostrich are in this category rather than the flying aviary selection. Check the Zoopedia for barrier, space, habitat and social requirements before adopting.

Planet Zoo 2 animals list: all 12 flying birds
Flying birds need an aviary built with enclosing walls and a suitable roof. The Golden Eagle is Deluxe-only. If a bird isn’t on the following list, don’t assume a roofed flying aviary is where it belongs; the African Penguin and Common Ostrich are terrestrial habitat species.

Planet Zoo 2 animals list: all 37 aquarium animals
Aquarium animals include fish, sharks, rays, a marine turtle and a manatee. These water habitats need suitable depth, the correct water type, filtration and working staff access. Some smaller fish can also occupy exhibits, so look for them again in the final table.

Planet Zoo 2 animals list: six Deluxe Edition animals
The Planet Zoo 2 animals list includes six Deluxe exclusives: Axolotl (exhibit), Blue and Gold Fusilier (aquarium or exhibit), Golden Eagle (aviary), Golden Lion Tamarin (terrestrial habitat), Great Hammerhead (aquarium) and Longfin Batfish (aquarium). If you’re playing the standard edition, you’ll need the Deluxe Upgrade Pack for those species.
Planet Zoo 2 animals list: check Zoopedia requirements
Open the Zoopedia entry for the species you want and confirm its enclosure type first. Then check its required habitat size, water conditions, terrain, group size, welfare needs and social compatibility. A lion habitat and a meerkat habitat may both be terrestrial, but you can’t give them the same enclosure and expect both to thrive.
Our animal welfare guide covers food, environment and social needs, while the beginner’s guide explains how to assemble a working first zoo. Use these with the Planet Zoo 2 animals list so you build for an animal’s actual needs, not just its appearance.
Planet Zoo 2 animals list: why species are locked in Franchise
The Planet Zoo 2 animals list shows animals in the game, not necessarily every animal available to a new Franchise at the beginning. Franchise Accreditation tiers restrict which species you can trade for until you’ve raised the Reputation of your zoos and Biodiversity of Wildlife Reserves. Some animals are also missing from a temporarily empty online market.
Check the Franchise Accreditation tier requirements if the species is locked, and Franchise Mode troubleshooting if the marketplace is not displaying available animals.
Planet Zoo 2 animals list: can every species be released?
No. Managed Wildlife Reserve releases depend on the ecosystem and the species, alongside research and Release Group conditions. Some animals can be quick-released but cannot be placed in a compatible managed reserve. You might need a particular group size, acceptable fertility or sufficient genetic diversity.
Read why animals are not eligible for release for those requirements, or how to manage a Wildlife Reserve to plan a conservation project. The Planet Zoo 2 animals list is the starting point, not a guarantee of release eligibility for each species.
Are dolphins or Great White Sharks in Planet Zoo 2?
No. The launch Zoopedia contains neither dolphins and whales nor a Great White Shark. Its four listed shark species are Blacktip Reef Shark, Great Hammerhead, Indo-Pacific Leopard Shark and Sand Tiger Shark. A new species would need to be officially announced and added to the game before it belongs in the list.
