Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating is the measure of how healthy and well-researched your Wildlife Reserve has become. It’s different from a zoo’s Reputation score. You can have an attractive reserve with animals roaming through it and still be missing the ecosystem diversity or monitoring needed to raise its rating.
This matters early in Franchise Mode because Biodiversity stars are part of the requirements for the higher Accreditation tiers. Getting three stars across multiple reserves unlocks more animals and equipment, while a five-star reserve takes more complete restoration. Start with the ecosystem itself, then look at animal roles and the Research Network.
What increases the Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating?
Two parts of reserve management contribute to its overall progress: ecosystem health and the research coverage you establish. Ecosystems need the right environment and species performing different roles; observation equipment gives your Research Network the information needed to monitor them. Adding lots of the same animal won’t fill every ecological role.
When you open the reserve’s management view, look beyond the headline star count. Check which ecosystems are still degraded, which roles lack animals and how much of your reserve is covered by monitoring. Those individual problems tell you why the Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating hasn’t improved.
Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating: clear pollution and invasive plants
A new reserve can contain environmental pollution and invasive vegetation that prevent its ecosystems from reaching a healthy state. Work through the reserve’s affected areas and remove both before you begin releasing a large number of animals. Cleaning up early is easier than finding the last polluted patch once your reserve is busy.
A patch of suitable grass or water doesn’t cancel out nearby pollution. Inspect the ecosystem’s own requirements and restore its terrain, foliage and water balance. The available ecosystem choices also depend on the reserve’s location. For example, a grassland setting doesn’t offer exactly the same landscapes as a broadleaf forest.
Your goal is to progress individual ecosystems towards established and flourishing states. Don’t treat the reserve as one huge generic habitat: each ecosystem has its own needs, and progress in one won’t automatically repair another.

Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating: fill the missing animal roles
Once the landscape is ready, the Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating depends on which animals you release and what they do there. Different species contribute different ecological functions, including grazing or browsing vegetation, disturbing soil and predation. A reserve with several herbivores may still be missing a predator role.
Use the reserve’s animal or ecosystem panel to see which species are eligible and which roles remain unfilled. Prepare Release Groups at your zoo, research each species and confirm that the selected animals meet the group’s conditions before releasing them. You may need to establish a prey population before introducing a predator.
A single successful release isn’t guaranteed to raise a star. You need populations performing the roles the ecosystem expects. Keep an eye on their condition and the reserve’s progress as you add species, rather than flooding the area with animals simply to increase the total count.
Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating: cover your reserve with research tools
Research is the other side of the Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating. Your Research Network begins with an outpost, then uses Observation Platforms, Camera Traps and Acoustic Monitors to record wildlife across the reserve. These devices are not interchangeable with restoring polluted land; both tasks contribute to a stronger reserve.
Place platforms and monitoring devices so their effective areas cover different sections. If two pieces of equipment overlap heavily while another ecosystem has no coverage, moving or adding one is more helpful than clustering everything around the outpost.
Franchise Accreditation also affects which tools you can build. Observation Platforms are available at the first tier, while Camera Traps unlock at tier two and Acoustic Monitors at tier three. If a device isn’t in your building tools yet, check your Accreditation progress before trying to fix it with construction changes.

How to reach three Biodiversity stars for Franchise Accreditation
Franchise Tier 3 requires two zoos with at least three Reputation stars apiece and one Wildlife Reserve with at least three Biodiversity stars. Tier 4 requires a second three-star reserve, and Tier 5 adds a third. Those requirements are why raising the Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating matters beyond a single reserve.
Build towards three stars methodically: remove pollution and invasive growth, set up compatible ecosystems, populate multiple ecological roles and spread your available research devices through the reserve. If progress stalls, inspect both the ecosystems and the research percentage before buying more animals.
You don’t have to make a five-star reserve before working on the next Accreditation step. Three-star reserves satisfy the stated Franchise conditions; five stars are a stronger end goal if you want to fully develop that location.
How to reach five stars and fix a rating that won’t increase
After three stars, remaining progress usually comes from gaps that were less obvious early on. One ecosystem may still be short of a role, another may lack suitable water or foliage, and an isolated area may not be covered by your research devices. Work through those issues one by one.
If the Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating appears stuck, check that your new animals were actually released to that reserve rather than quick-released, and that the selected species fits its ecosystem. Then look at whether the devices are unlocked and positioned where the animals live. Progress can only come from the system that is currently short.

Improving your Planet Zoo 2 biodiversity rating and improving Zoo Reputation are separate goals; your Franchise needs both.
