AION 2 Platforms became confusing because the game has regional history and years of development material that do not all describe the October 2026 global version. The global service now has a much cleaner support position than the old speculation suggests.
The important distinction is between something players may technically experiment with and something NC officially supports. For a launch guide, the supported list should win.
AION 2 Platforms officially supported at global launch

AION 2 Platforms for the global service are Steam and PURPLE on Windows PC. NC’s Global FAQ says both clients are supported and share the same servers, so Steam and PURPLE are distribution choices rather than separate versions of the MMO.
Steam’s store page also identifies AION 2 as PC only. There is no separate PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo release listed for the October 2026 global launch.
Is AION 2 on mobile?
Mobile is not part of the supported AION 2 Platforms for the global version. NC’s FAQ says the global release is available through Steam and PURPLE, and its earlier launch information described the global version as being developed exclusively for PC platforms.
That wording matters because older AION 2 coverage can refer to other development plans or regional expectations. Players searching for the global client should use the current PC support statement rather than assuming a phone download exists because of an old article.
Do Steam and PURPLE use the same servers?
Yes. NC confirms that Steam and PURPLE players share servers. Choosing between those AION 2 Platforms does not place you in a different game world or a separate matchmaking pool.
Your practical decision is therefore about launcher preference, account setup and where you want to manage the installation. Server region and faction are selected inside the service rather than being determined by whether the client came from Steam or PURPLE.
Is Linux supported?
Linux is not an officially supported entry in AION 2 Platforms. NC says it only provides official support for Steam and PURPLE on Windows PC, even if players manage to make the game run on another operating system or device.
That support boundary matters for troubleshooting. A workaround that runs today can break after an anti-cheat, launcher or game update without NC treating it as a supported regression.
What about Steam Deck?
Steam Deck is also outside the officially supported AION 2 Platforms. The game may be technically playable under some configurations, but NC does not promise Deck compatibility for the global service.
If handheld play is important, check the dedicated Steam Deck status guide before buying accessories or changing your main setup. Do not treat a community workaround as equivalent to official support.
Is there controller support on PC?
Controller use is a separate question from AION 2 Platforms. NC says the PC game is playable with a controller, but controller support is not officially supported. Keyboard and mouse remain the safer baseline for menus, combat and troubleshooting.
That means a controller can function without turning AION 2 into a console release. Platform support and input support are different layers, which is why both details belong in separate guides.
Which client should you choose?
- Choose Steam if you prefer managing the game through your existing Steam library.
- Choose PURPLE if you prefer NC’s own launcher and account ecosystem.
- Expect both clients to enter the same global servers.
- Use Windows 10 or Windows 11, which are the supported operating systems listed in the PC requirements.
- Do not rely on mobile, Linux or Steam Deck support when planning your main account setup.
The current AION 2 Platforms answer is deliberately narrow because that is what NC supports: Windows PC through Steam or PURPLE. If additional platforms are announced later, that would be a real expansion worth updating rather than something to infer from old regional information.
For now, keeping AION 2 Platforms tied to the official global support list prevents players from downloading the wrong client, expecting cross-platform features that have not been announced or troubleshooting an unsupported device as though it were part of the launch target.
For the current global build, AION 2 Platforms should be read from NC’s supported Windows PC list rather than from older development speculation about devices that never joined the October launch.
That also keeps account setup simple for new players: install through one supported Windows client, then choose region, faction and server inside the same global service instead of searching for a separate mobile or console population.
