ESO Prowler's Amulet Upgrades

ESO Prowler’s Amulet Upgrades allow you to improve the Prowler’s Talisman, a Mythic necklace introduced through the new Thieves Guild storyline in The Elder Scrolls Online. There are four upgrades to collect, each requiring a different Phynaster gem obtained through quests, Dynamic Encounters, Rumors or the Nowhere Vault.

The necklace is initially awarded during The Codex Caper, but collecting it is only the beginning. To unlock its full potential, you’ll need to track down all four gems and take them to Mylen Dechery in Daggerfall. Some are earned through guaranteed quest rewards, while others require completing separate activities introduced across Updates 50 and 51.

All four upgrades contribute towards the Walk in the Prowler’s Boots achievement, worth 50 achievement points.

You can track your progress through Journal, Achievements, Recent Seasons and General. The achievement also identifies where each gem comes from, making it useful for checking which activities you still need to complete.

How to Get the ESO Prowler’s Amulet

Before collecting the upgrades, complete The Codex Caper in Daggerfall, Glenumbra.

This quest is part of the Thieves Guild storyline introduced in Update 50. Completing it awards the Prowler’s Amulet, which becomes the Prowler’s Talisman Mythic necklace.

Unlike Mythic equipment obtained through the Antiquities system, this necklace is tied directly to the questline. You don’t need to collect Antiquity leads or excavate fragments to acquire the base item.

Once you have the necklace, you can begin collecting its four upgrade gems.

How to Get Phynaster’s Gem of Agility

Phynaster’s Gem of Agility is obtained from Dynamic Encounter reward chests.

Dynamic Encounters are rotating activities introduced with Update 50. They take place in Auridon, Glenumbra and Stonefalls, with rewards awarded after successfully completing an encounter.

The gem originally had an extremely low drop rate, prompting complaints from players who completed dozens of encounters without receiving it. ZeniMax subsequently increased its drop rate in Update 50.

Update 51 also introduced a guaranteed acquisition condition tied to the Folk Hero achievement.

To qualify for the guaranteed Gem of Agility reward:

  1. Obtain the Prowler’s Amulet through The Codex Caper.
  2. Complete 30 Dynamic Encounters to earn the Folk Hero achievement.
  3. Complete another eligible Dynamic Encounter if you haven’t already received the gem.
  4. Collect your reward and check for Phynaster’s Gem of Agility.

The Update 51 guarantee applies to players who have earned Folk Hero, possess the amulet and have not previously obtained the gem.

The gem can also drop before completing all 30 encounters, so you may receive it while working towards the achievement.

How to Get Phynaster’s Gem of Cunning

Phynaster’s Gem of Cunning is obtained through the Nowhere Vault, the challenge activity introduced in Update 51.

To access the Nowhere Vault, travel to Daggerfall and enter through the Thieves Den. You’ll need a Wondrous Nowhere Key to begin a Vault run.

The Vault contains randomized challenge rooms divided into different wings, with rewards earned as you progress through its encounters.

The Walk in the Prowler’s Boots achievement identifies Nowhere Vault exploration as the source of the Gem of Cunning. Player testing has confirmed that the gem can be obtained during Vault progression.

However, a particular guaranteed room, chest or boss requirement has not been reliably established. There is no reason to assume that completing a specific secret puzzle is mandatory for this upgrade.

For more information about obtaining the required entry items, see our How to Get Wondrous Nowhere Keys in ESO guide.

How to Get Phynaster’s Gem of Deception

Phynaster’s Gem of Deception is earned through the Rumors system introduced in ESO Update 51.

The gem is associated with the Beriel Heirloom Rumor, which serves as the introductory investigation for the system.

To obtain it, begin the Rumors questline in Daggerfall and complete the Beriel Heirloom investigation. During Update 51 testing, the gem was awarded as part of this Rumor’s completion rewards.

Unlike the Gem of Agility, this upgrade is tied to a named investigation rather than repeatedly farming Dynamic Encounters.

Once you’ve completed the investigation, check your reward and return to Mylen Dechery to apply the upgrade.

Our ESO Rumors System Guide explains how to unlock Rumors, locate investigations and complete their objectives.

How to Get Phynaster’s Gem of Stealth

Phynaster’s Gem of Stealth comes from Racing into Nowhere, a quest in the Daggerfall Thieves Guild storyline.

Continue progressing through the storyline after The Codex Caper until you reach Racing into Nowhere. Completing the quest awards the Gem of Stealth, which can then be used to upgrade the Prowler’s Talisman.

There is no separate random-drop requirement associated with this gem. It is a story reward, making it one of the more straightforward ESO Prowler’s Amulet Upgrades to obtain.

If you haven’t unlocked Racing into Nowhere, continue following the Daggerfall Thieves Guild quests rather than searching for the gem in ordinary treasure chests.

How to Apply ESO Prowler’s Amulet Upgrades

Collecting the gems doesn’t automatically mean you’ve installed their upgrades.

After obtaining a Phynaster gem, return to Mylen Dechery in the Daggerfall Thieves Den, located within Daggerfall’s Outlaws Refuge in Glenumbra.

Speak to Mylen and select the available dialogue option to have the gem socketed into your Prowler’s Talisman.

You can repeat this process as you collect the remaining gems. There is no need to wait until you have all four before visiting her.

The necklace’s improvements are determined by its total number of installed upgrades, rather than every named gem permanently increasing one particular stat.

Player testing has also shown that installed upgrades can carry across copies of the Talisman owned by different characters on the same account.

What Do the Prowler’s Talisman Upgrades Do?

The Prowler’s Talisman combines stealth-related abilities with bonuses to your character’s resources and recovery.

Its effects include temporary invisibility while bracing in crouch, improved pickpocketing chances and stacking resource bonuses triggered by dealing critical or non-critical damage.

Initially, the invisibility effect lasts for 10 seconds and has a 45-second cooldown while Battle Spirit is inactive.

The first installed gem increases the necklace’s resource and recovery bonuses. Once a second gem has been installed, the invisibility cooldown decreases from 45 seconds to 30 seconds.

Further upgrades improve the Talisman’s progression, with the total upgrade count displayed on the item’s tooltip.

If you want to compare your necklace before and after applying a gem, inspect the item tooltip and check its upgrade count alongside the individual bonuses.

ESO Prowler’s Amulet Upgrades Not Working

There are several things worth checking if you’ve obtained a gem but cannot apply it.

Mylen Dechery is missing: Players have reported Mylen disappearing from the Daggerfall Thieves Den following Update 51, even after previously interacting with her successfully. Try logging back in or visiting on another character that has completed The Codex Caper. If she remains absent, the issue may be a bug rather than a missed quest step.

You cannot apply a gem: Make sure you’re speaking to Mylen on a character that has completed the relevant introductory storyline. Players have reported collecting gems on one character but needing to switch to another to access her upgrade dialogue.

Gem of Agility hasn’t dropped: Check whether you’ve earned Folk Hero and obtained the base amulet. If you meet those conditions and have completed another eligible Dynamic Encounter without receiving the gem, it may warrant reporting through ESO’s in-game support system.

The Talisman looks unchanged: Check its total installed upgrade count and compare the tooltip carefully. Some improvements increase existing bonuses rather than adding entirely new effects.

If you have already installed a particular gem on another character, account-wide upgrade progression may also explain why your current copy appears more advanced than expected.

Completing all four ESO Prowler’s Amulet Upgrades restores the Prowler’s Talisman to its fully upgraded state and finishes the Walk in the Prowler’s Boots achievement. The Gem of Stealth comes through the Thieves Guild storyline, Deception through Rumors, Agility through Dynamic Encounters and Cunning through the Nowhere Vault.

Remember to visit Mylen Dechery whenever you collect a new gem. Installing each upgrade as you go lets you benefit from the necklace’s improved abilities while continuing towards the remaining rewards.
