Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals is enabled by default in the native Nintendo Switch 2 game, which launched on October 27, 2026. Mojang has confirmed enhanced lighting, moving shadows, volumetric fog, reflective water and other visual changes.
This is no longer a beta wish list item. Mojang has formally confirmed Vibrant Visuals for the native Switch 2 edition and says supported Marketplace content can use it too.
What changes with Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals?
| Visual feature | Confirmed effect |
|---|---|
| Directional lighting | Lighting changes across surfaces and time of day |
| Moving shadows | Shadows shift as the sun moves |
| Volumetric fog | Atmospheric depth in distant and enclosed areas |
| Water reflections | Light and scenery reflect across water |
| Enhanced atmosphere | Clouds, light and surfaces use the new graphics pipeline |
The goal of Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals is presentation rather than new gameplay mechanics. Mojang describes Vibrant Visuals as a cosmetic enhancement, so the underlying rules of existing worlds do not change.
Is Vibrant Visuals on by default?

Yes. Mojang says Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals is the default visual experience in the native Switch 2 version.
That is stronger than simply saying the console supports the feature. Players should expect the enhanced pipeline as the normal presentation unless a particular mode or piece of content does not support it.
Does Vibrant Visuals work in split-screen?
No. Mojang specifically says Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals is not available during some gameplay, including split-screen.
That limitation matters for households using local multiplayer because the graphics shown in single-player promotional material will not apply in every split-screen session.
Does every Marketplace world support it?
No. Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals can work with supported Marketplace content, but Mojang warns that certain Marketplace worlds and content will not use Vibrant Visuals.
Compatibility therefore depends on the content itself. A standard world using the native graphics pipeline is not the same thing as a creator-made experience with its own rendering requirements.
What happens to existing worlds?
Vibrant Visuals is a visual enhancement rather than a gameplay rewrite, so Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals does not require starting a new survival world.
Mojang’s wider Vibrant Visuals documentation says existing Bedrock worlds can use the enhanced rendering on supported devices. Switch 2 joins that supported-device group with its native release.
Super Mario Mash-Up gets the upgrade too
The Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up is receiving its own Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals update. Mojang says the themed world will be refreshed to take advantage of the enhanced graphics.
Our Minecraft Super Mario Mash-Up Switch 2 guide covers the Mario world, skins, music and confirmed visual refresh.
When is Vibrant Visuals available on Switch 2?
Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals arrives with the native edition on October 27. It is not described as a separate paid shader pack.
Our Minecraft Switch 2 release date guide covers the digital upgrade path for existing Switch owners and the other confirmed launch features.
If Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals seems missing, make sure you launched the native Switch 2 game. The original Nintendo Switch version can run through backward compatibility on the new hardware without gaining the native graphical enhancements.
Check the game mode. Mojang says Vibrant Visuals is unavailable in some situations, including split-screen. Switch to a standard single-player world to compare lighting and shadows. Some Marketplace worlds and content also do not support the enhanced graphics, so the absence of an effect there is not necessarily a fault.
If you changed the graphics options, inspect the native game’s video settings and available updates. The Super Mario Mash-Up has also received a Vibrant Visuals update; Mojang directs players to the Marketplace to claim that pack. A particular unsupported add-on is not evidence that your entire Switch 2 update failed.
Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals not working: fixes
Official Vibrant Visuals details
Mojang’s official Switch 2 announcement confirms that Vibrant Visuals is the default graphics setting for the native edition.
For Minecraft Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals, the important caveats are split-screen and unsupported Marketplace content. Outside those limitations, the visual overhaul is a core Switch 2 feature.
