Fallout 76 CE-108255-1: How to Fix the PS5 Crash Error

Fallout 76 CE-108255-1 troubleshooting on PlayStation 5

Fallout 76 CE-108255-1 is the PS5 application crash code that tells you the game or app hit an error. It does not identify one specific Fallout 76 quest, character or server as the cause. Sony’s own page for CE-108255-1 starts with the simplest instruction: make sure the game is updated. Bethesda then points Fallout 76 players with the same code back to PlayStation troubleshooting and its general crash checklist.

That means the useful approach is to treat the code as a crash symptom and work outward from the application. Do not start by deleting characters, changing your Bethesda account or opening router ports unless you also have a separate network error.

Fallout 76 CE-108255-1: update the game before anything else

  1. Highlight Fallout 76 on the PS5 home screen and check for an update.
  2. Update PS5 system software if an update is waiting.
  3. Close Fallout 76 completely, then restart the PS5.
  4. Launch the native PS5 version again and see whether CE-108255-1 returns.

Sony describes Fallout 76 CE-108255-1 simply as an error with the game or application and tells players to try updating the game. That is deliberately broad because CE-108255-1 is not unique to Fallout 76. If the code only appeared once after an update or server transition, a restart may be all you need.

Power cycle the PS5 if the code keeps returning

Bethesda’s Fallout 76 crash troubleshooting adds a full power cycle. Turn the PS5 off rather than entering Rest Mode, wait for the light to go out, unplug the power cable for at least 10 seconds, reconnect it and boot again. This clears the console session more completely than closing and reopening the game.

Make sure you are also testing the native PS5 application. The September 15 release is a separate current-generation client and requires a full download from the Store. If both PS4 and PS5 versions are installed, use the version selector so you are troubleshooting the application you actually intend to play.

Clear Fallout 76 local save data if normal restarts fail

Bethesda includes local save-data deletion in its PlayStation crash steps, so it is a reasonable next Fallout 76 CE-108255-1 test after updates and power cycling. On PS5, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data > Console Storage > Delete, then select Fallout 76.

Bethesda says this does not affect your Fallout 76 character data or game progression. It can, however, remove photos stored in the Fallout 76 Photo Gallery. Back those up first if they matter to you.

Reinstall the native PS5 client

If CE-108255-1 appears every time you launch or consistently at the same early point, reinstalling is the final normal application-level step Bethesda recommends. Delete Fallout 76, return to the PlayStation Store and download the PS5-labelled client again. Let the whole installation complete before launching.

When the code may need PlayStation support

If Fallout 76 CE-108255-1 survives a fully updated game, updated console, clean restart, power cycle, local save reset and reinstall, the remaining problem may not be something Fallout 76 settings can solve. Sony’s CE-108255-1 page directs players to PlayStation Repairs for further help.

Bethesda’s official Fallout 76 CE-108255-1 support page makes the same distinction: this is a PlayStation error that can have multiple causes. If you contact support, include whether the code appears on launch, when joining a world, during one activity, or randomly after several minutes. That pattern is much more useful than the code by itself.

Does reinstalling Fallout 76 delete your character?

No. Fallout 76 character progression is tied to the online service rather than a normal offline campaign save on the console. Reinstalling the PS5 application does not mean starting a fresh character. The local-data warning is about things such as settings and Photo Gallery images, which is why backing up photos matters before clearing local save data.

If CE-108255-1 appears only during one event or one repeatable action, mention that when reporting it. A crash that happens at the same trigger every time is more useful for support than a random dashboard exit, and it may point to a game bug that a reinstall cannot permanently solve.
