Fallout 76 PS5 License Error: How to Restore Access

Fallout 76 PS5 license error troubleshooting on PlayStation 5

Fallout 76 PS5 license error should be treated as a PlayStation entitlement problem before you start deleting Fallout 76. If the native PS5 app says you do not have the licence to play, the most useful first steps are to confirm you are on the account that owns or can access the game, restore the licence, and check whether your version of PlayStation Plus currently includes the PS5 entitlement.

That last point is especially important with the September 2026 native release. Bethesda has different access routes for purchased copies, PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, and people who originally claimed Fallout 76 through PlayStation Plus Essential. A temporary entitlement problem can therefore look like a broken game even when the installed files are fine.

Fallout 76 PS5 license error: restore the game licence first

  1. Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
  2. Select the Fallout 76 licence and restore it.
  3. You can also highlight Fallout 76 on the home screen or in Game Library, press Options and choose Restore License.
  4. Restart the PS5 and launch the game again from the account that owns or has access to it.

Sony says restoring licences does not affect your saved data. That makes it the right first Fallout 76 PS5 license error step before anything destructive. Sony specifically recommends licence restoration when a game shows a padlock, cannot be located, or crashes because its entitlement is not being read correctly.

Check Console Sharing and Offline Play

If the licence belongs to another account on the same console, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. Sony uses this setting to control whether other users on that PS5 can access eligible purchased content from the sharing account.

For a licence-confirmation error such as CE-109245-1, Sony tells players to restart the console, sign in with the account that owns the content, and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play. That is a much better match for an entitlement message than clearing Fallout 76 save data.

PlayStation Plus Essential is a special case right now

A Fallout 76 PS5 license error can also be confused with the native upgrade not yet being available to your subscription tier. Bethesda says players who access Fallout 76 through the old PlayStation Plus Essential claim will be able to download the native PS5 version for free on September 25 at 10 AM ET. That date is later than the September 15 native launch.

Digital owners, physical owners and players using the PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium Game Catalog have a different entitlement path. If the Store is asking you to pay or upgrade your subscription before September 25 and Essential is your only ownership route, do not assume licence restoration will create an entitlement that Bethesda says becomes available later.

Sign out and back into PlayStation Network

If you should already own the PS5 version, fully close Fallout 76, sign out of PlayStation Network, then sign back in. Accept any new PlayStation prompts or account documents that appear. Bethesda uses the same advice for its PlayStation sign-in error code [2:0:2153054214], because an account that is not fully authenticated can fail the game’s access check.

What if restoring the licence does not work?

If the Fallout 76 PS5 license error remains, check PlayStation Network status and Bethesda status before repeating the same restore process. Sony notes that newly released title information can sometimes take time to reflect correctly on the server side. If you have the correct owning account, the right subscription or purchase entitlement, and the services are healthy, contact PlayStation Support with the exact error message.

Sony’s official restore licences guide is the first-party reference for the menu path and confirms that licence restoration does not affect your data. If your problem is specifically that the PS5 upgrade is still priced rather than an in-game licence message, use the separate PS Plus Essential guide instead.
