EA FC 27 The Grounds Multiplayer is built around a shared world that can hold up to 100 players at once, making it much broader than a normal Clubs lobby.
Friends can meet inside the same social football space, move through districts, play small-sided matches, enter Clubs activities and join stadium competition without treating every activity as a separate menu.
How many players can be in The Grounds

EA says the shared football world supports up to 100 players. That figure describes the wider social space rather than the size of one individual football match.
Actual activities use their own player counts, from 1v1 and 2v2 street games to 3v3, Rush and full 11v11 Club competition.
Playing with friends
The Grounds is explicitly designed as a social way to play FC 27, allowing players to meet friends, explore the world and take part in activities together.
Clubs remains at the centre of that structure, so existing Clubmates can move from casual world activities into leagues, playoffs, Rush or tournament play.
Matchmaking and drop-ins
Stadium drop-in modes take players out of the open world and into standard matchmaking, where EA says they are matched with players of a similar skill level.
That applies to stadium Rush, live Rush tournaments and 11v11 drop-ins, while smaller world activities are handled inside the Grounds environment itself.
Shared progression without always playing together
New Club Objectives can track combined progress across members, even when everyone is not in the same match. EA gives examples such as total wins across a specific activity.
That means multiplayer progression can continue through the combined effort of a Club rather than requiring the full group to be online at the same time.
Across the mode, EA FC 27 The Grounds Multiplayer uses the 100-player world as a social layer around smaller football activities and Clubs. The important distinction is that 100 players can share the space, while each match still has its own smaller team-size rules.
The social design behind EA FC 27 The Grounds Multiplayer is easiest to understand by separating the 100-player world capacity from the much smaller player counts used by individual activities.
For friends, EA FC 27 The Grounds Multiplayer creates a shared place to meet before deciding whether to play a casual kickabout, a small-sided match, Rush or a full Clubs fixture.
Traditional matchmaking still matters inside EA FC 27 The Grounds Multiplayer because stadium drop-ins leave the world and match players by skill in a more familiar competitive flow.
Club progression also benefits from EA FC 27 The Grounds Multiplayer because shared Objectives can count contributions from members who are playing at different times rather than requiring one full group session.
That flexibility makes EA FC 27 The Grounds Multiplayer more useful for large Clubs where not every member can be online together, while still preserving organised modes for groups that can coordinate.
The result is that EA FC 27 The Grounds Multiplayer behaves as both a social lobby and a collection of playable activities, instead of being one oversized match with 100 people on the same pitch.
The shared-space approach also reduces the sense that every activity needs a fresh party setup or menu transition. A group can meet in the world first and then decide what to do, which is closer to a social hub than the old sequence of disconnected matchmaking screens.
For large Clubs, the combined objective system is especially useful. Members with different schedules can still move the same Club goal forward, so progression does not depend entirely on finding one evening when every regular player can join the same lobby.
EA's design therefore gives smaller groups and larger Clubs different entry points into the same world. The social hub connects them, but the actual activity can stay appropriately sized for the number of people who want to play.
EA details the feature in its official EA SPORTS FC 27 information.
