RuneScape Dragonwilds cross-progression is not supported between different platform families at launch. Jagex has confirmed that Steam Early Access progress does not transfer to PS5 or other new platforms, even though crossplay lets those platforms play together.
That distinction is the important one. Crossplay means a Steam player can join friends on console, but it does not mean the same character or world automatically follows you from Steam to PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch 2.

Does RuneScape Dragonwilds cross-progression work between PC and console?
No. Jagex explicitly says progress does not carry across platform. A Steam character can still crossplay with console players, but moving to a new platform means starting a new local platform save rather than importing the existing Early Access character.
This matters most for players who already invested dozens or hundreds of hours into the Steam version. You do not need to abandon that character to play with console friends. Keep the PC save and invite the console players into the same cross-platform session instead.
Do Steam Early Access saves carry into version 1.0?
Yes on the same PC ecosystem. Version 1.0 is the continuation of Dragonwilds rather than a forced wipe of the Steam Early Access game. The problem only appears when you try to move that progress onto another platform.
Steam Cloud support also remains useful for moving between PCs while staying inside Steam. That is different from a universal Jagex-account cloud save shared with every console storefront.
What about Xbox Play Anywhere?
The Xbox store lists Dragonwilds as Xbox Play Anywhere with Xbox cloud saves. That gives the Microsoft ecosystem stronger continuity between Xbox and supported Windows PC access than the Steam-to-console situation.
Do not read Xbox Play Anywhere as proof that a Steam save can be imported into Xbox. Steam, PlayStation and Nintendo remain separate platform environments unless Jagex announces a new migration feature later.
Can you use the same world with friends on another platform?
Yes through crossplay. RuneScape Dragonwilds cross-progression is separate from world access. A host can open a world to friends on other supported platforms, and dedicated servers provide another way to keep a shared world available without tying it to one player’s normal play session.
If the group cares about one long-running world, a dedicated server is the cleaner setup. The server owns the world save, while individual players connect from supported platforms instead of relying on one friend’s local save being online.
Can Jagex add cross-save later?
It is possible, but there is no confirmed universal cross-save feature to promise now. Jagex’s launch messaging focuses on crossplay, while its earlier console FAQ specifically says saves do not carry between platforms.
For now, treat RuneScape Dragonwilds cross-progression as platform-limited: keep your established save where it was created, use crossplay to join friends elsewhere, and only start fresh on another platform if you actually want a second progression path.
