The free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone becomes available when Patch 36.6 goes live on September 15, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Blizzard says players only need to log in to claim M.O.T.H.E.R., a Neutral Legendary Watcher from Reign of the Black Empire, before the expansion itself launches on October 20.
How to claim M.O.T.H.E.R.
Getting the free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone is a login reward rather than an event-track grind. Update the game to Patch 36.6 once it is live on September 15, sign in with the Battle.net account you use for Hearthstone, and allow the game to process the reward. Blizzard’s BlizzCon recap specifically tells players to log in after the patch goes live to claim it.
When the reward starts
The free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone is tied to Patch 36.6 at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 15. That is the point Blizzard gives for the reward becoming active, not midnight in each local time zone. If the card does not appear before that deployment time, the likely explanation is simply that the patch or server-side reward has not activated yet.
Do you need to buy the expansion?
No purchase requirement has been attached to the free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone. Blizzard presents it as a login reward and separately advertises the Reign of the Black Empire pre-purchase bundles. That means you should not need a bundle, Tavern Pass or preorder to claim the normal free copy once Patch 36.6 is live.
What card is M.O.T.H.E.R.?
The free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone is a Neutral Legendary Watcher from Reign of the Black Empire. Blizzard describes M.O.T.H.E.R. as one of the immortal Titan-forged constructs created to preserve order against the Old Gods. Because it is Neutral, the card is not locked to one class and can potentially support multiple decks once the set becomes playable.
Can you use it before October 20?
Receiving the free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone before the expansion does not automatically mean every Reign of the Black Empire card is live in Standard immediately. Blizzard is using Patch 36.6 as the pre-launch period, with the full expansion scheduled for October 20. Players should follow the in-game legality shown after the patch rather than assume the full set unlocks early.
Other free Black Empire cards
M.O.T.H.E.R. is not the only free pre-launch reward connected to the set. Alongside the free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone, Blizzard says Arrival of the Old Gods, Arrival of the Titans and Dark Terraforming will be earnable through in-game events before launch. Those three require event participation rather than the simple login used for M.O.T.H.E.R.
What if it does not appear?
If the free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone does not appear after the patch time, first confirm that the client has updated to 36.6 and restart Hearthstone. Rewards can also take a short time to display during a major patch rollout. Do not spend crafting resources on the card just because it is not visible before the September 15 activation time.
Why claim it now?
Claiming the free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone gives every active player one confirmed Reign of the Black Empire Legendary without touching a preorder bundle. It also lets Blizzard seed the new Titan-forged theme before the October set launch. Even if M.O.T.H.E.R. does not fit your first deck, a free Legendary is worth collecting while the reward is available.
Official reward details
Blizzard confirms the free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone in its official BlizzCon 2026 Hearthstone recap: Patch 36.6 goes live September 15 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, and logging in after that point grants M.O.T.H.E.R.
Patch 36.6 timing
The free M.O.T.H.E.R. Legendary card in Hearthstone is one part of the September 15 update. That same patch also activates the Reign of the Black Empire pre-purchase visibility in game and begins the Black Market period. M.O.T.H.E.R. therefore works as a bridge from the Violet Hold season into the next expansion reveal cycle.
