Valheim Frost Foundry is the main Deep North casting station, used to harden crafted casts into finished weapons, armour and progression items. You unlock the recipe after obtaining Frostcore in the Winding Tunnels, and the station then becomes central to almost every serious Deep North crafting project.
Valheim Frost Foundry does not work like a normal Forge. First you find a mould, then create a cast using the required materials, then place that cast into the Frost Foundry and fuel the station with Liquid Frost.
Valheim Frost Foundry build recipe
Build the Frost Foundry with 15 Iron, 20 Stone and 10 Frostcore near a Workbench. Frostcore comes from Winding Tunnels in the Deep North.
Bring Iron from an established base or ship it north before committing to a remote workshop. The station is much more useful when built beside a Frigid Kiln, because that kiln produces the Liquid Frost the foundry consumes.
How to unlock the Frost Foundry

Pick up Frostcore for the first time. That discovery opens the relevant Deep North station recipes.
If the Valheim Frost Foundry recipe has not appeared, make sure your character has personally encountered the required materials and that you are using the current 1.0 version rather than an outdated server build.
How moulds and casts work
Deep North recipes use moulds found mainly through Winding Tunnels and related progression. A mould is not the finished item and is normally consumed when you create its corresponding cast.
For example, an Intricate Key mould plus five Bloodgold becomes a Cast: Intricate Key at a level 4 Black Forge. That cast then moves to the Valheim Frost Foundry for the final step.
How to get Liquid Frost
Build a Frigid Kiln with 20 Stone, 10 Frostcore and 5 Ice. Feed additional Ice into the kiln to produce Liquid Frost.
Liquid Frost is the working fuel for the Valheim Frost Foundry. Keep a stock beside the station, because every cast you harden depends on it.
How to use the Frost Foundry
Each Valheim Frost Foundry cast consumes five Liquid Frost and takes 50 seconds to complete. The foundry holds 20 Liquid Frost, enough for four casts before refuelling. Keep the nearby Frigid Kiln running to supply the fuel, which is made from Ice.
| Requirement | Amount |
|---|---|
| Foundry construction | 15 Iron, 20 Stone, 10 Frostcore |
| Fuel per cast | 5 Liquid Frost |
| Time per cast | 50 seconds |
| Stored fuel capacity | 20 Liquid Frost |
Craft the appropriate cast first, interact with the Frost Foundry and place the cast into the station. Add Liquid Frost and allow the station to complete the hardening process.
The output is the finished item represented by the cast. For the Intricate Key chain, that means the cast becomes an actual key capable of opening one Mörkhalla gate.
What can the Valheim Frost Foundry make?
The station is used across the Deep North’s Nord crafting tier, including weapons, armour-related items and progression pieces built through the mould-and-cast system.
The exact recipe materials vary by mould, so the foundry does not replace the Black Forge or other stations. Think of it as the final hardening stage in a multi-station production line.

Best workshop layout
Put the Frigid Kiln and Valheim Frost Foundry next to each other, with storage for Ice, Liquid Frost, moulds, casts and Bloodgold nearby. The closer the stations are, the less pointless inventory shuffling you do.
A portal is useful for most non-metal materials, while heavier restricted resources may still need a Stone Portal or physical transport depending on what you are moving.
Why the Frost Foundry matters for progression
You cannot complete the Intricate Key chain without it. Since each key is consumed by a Mörkhalla gate and multiple Mörkhalla clears are needed for the final Deep North progression, the foundry is not optional endgame decoration.
Once Valheim Frost Foundry is running reliably, the biome changes from scavenging random materials into a repeatable crafting loop: gather moulds, produce Bloodgold, make casts, create Liquid Frost and harden the result.
Common Frost Foundry mistakes
Building the station does not unlock finished equipment for free. You still need the correct mould, the materials required for its cast and Liquid Frost for the final hardening step.
The mould is usually consumed when you create a cast, so do not throw away duplicates because the recipe already appears in your crafting menu. Repeated crafts need repeated moulds.
What to craft first
Progression items should usually beat experimental weapons when resources are tight. If you are ready to enter Mörkhalla, reserving five Bloodgold for an Intricate Key cast can be more important than making another Nord weapon immediately.
After your key needs are covered, choose equipment that solves an actual weakness in your build. Deep North crafting can swallow Bloodgold and Liquid Frost quickly, so a deliberate order is better than making every newly unlocked recipe just because the icon is glowing.

For a full crafting run, start by collecting Frostcores in Winding Tunnels. The Frigid Kiln makes the Liquid Frost you need, while Bloodgold and a relevant mould create the cast. If you are working towards the final boss, the Intricate Key is one of the earliest items to finish here.
