Valheim Intricate Key: How to Get the Mould and Craft It

Valheim Intricate Key is one of the main progression items in the Deep North, because each key opens one locked Gates of Mörkhalla dungeon. The finished key is not a simple Workbench craft: you need a Mould: Intricate Key, Bloodgold, a high-level Black Forge, Liquid Frost and a Frost Foundry.

Valheim Intricate Key is also consumed when you open Mörkhalla, so finishing the Deep North requires repeating the process. Plan on needing at least three keys if your goal is to collect the three Malicious Blood required later at the Aesir Passage.

Where to find the Intricate Key mould

Search Winding Tunnels beneath abandoned Deep North settlements. The mould can come from enemies and destructible dungeon objects, with Eyeless Ones and Elakings both able to drop it.

Winding Tunnels are worth clearing thoroughly because moulds are single-use. Crafting the Cast: Intricate Key consumes the mould, so finding one does not permanently unlock the recipe in the usual sense.

How much Bloodgold does the key need?

The Cast: Intricate Key costs five Bloodgold plus one Mould: Intricate Key at a level 4 Black Forge. Bloodgold is made from Petrified Tissue rather than mined as an ore vein.

Kill a Gammeltroll in the Deep North, then use Ember Charges on the petrified body. Collect the Petrified Tissue and process it in a Blast Furnace with coal to create Bloodgold.

Build the Frigid Kiln and Frost Foundry

The Valheim Intricate Key chain needs both Deep North cold-processing stations. The Frigid Kiln costs 20 Stone, 10 Frostcore and 5 Ice. It converts Ice into Liquid Frost.

The Frost Foundry costs 15 Iron, 20 Stone and 10 Frostcore. Frostcores are found in Winding Tunnels, so gathering 20 before returning home is a sensible target if you want both stations immediately.

How to craft the Cast: Intricate Key

Take five Bloodgold and one Mould: Intricate Key to a level 4 Black Forge. Craft Cast: Intricate Key there.

At this point you still do not have the finished Valheim Intricate Key. The cast has to be hardened in the Frost Foundry before it can open Mörkhalla.

How to finish the Intricate Key

Place the Cast: Intricate Key into the Frost Foundry and add Liquid Frost as fuel. The foundry processes the cast into the finished key.

Liquid Frost comes from feeding Ice into the Frigid Kiln. Keep more Ice than the five pieces required to build the kiln, because the station continues consuming Ice whenever you need more foundry fuel.

Where to use the Valheim Intricate Key

Look for Mörkhalla structures in the Deep North. They are tall dark towers with no convenient ground-level doorway. Use the Grappling Hook to reach the upper access route, then work down until you reach the chained gate.

Use the Valheim Intricate Key on that gate. The key is consumed and the dungeon opens. Mörkhalla contains Jotun enemies and the Malicious Ice progression object at the bottom.

Why you need several keys

Breaking the Malicious Ice at the bottom of a Mörkhalla triggers a Jotun invasion elsewhere on the world map. Completing that invasion gives one Malicious Blood.

Three Malicious Blood are needed for the Aesir Passage, so one Valheim Intricate Key is only the first pass through the loop. Keep every extra key mould you find, and make enough Bloodgold for repeated casts instead of crafting only one and discovering the problem later.

Intricate Key checklist

Before leaving your base, make sure you have the mould, five Bloodgold, access to a level 4 Black Forge, a working Frigid Kiln, Liquid Frost and a Frost Foundry. If one piece is missing, the crafting chain stops.

The easiest mistake is treating the mould as reusable. It is not. Every Cast: Intricate Key consumes another mould, and every Mörkhalla gate consumes another finished Valheim Intricate Key.

Common Intricate Key mistakes

Do not confuse the mould, cast and finished key. They are three different items in the same chain. The mould is consumed at the Black Forge, the cast still cannot open Mörkhalla, and only the Frost Foundry produces the finished key.

Best way to batch-craft keys

Once you have a working cold workshop, stockpile Bloodgold and Liquid Frost before making keys one at a time. Five Bloodgold per cast becomes a meaningful cost when you need several.

Keep Mould: Intricate Key copies in a dedicated chest. Once the Black Forge, Frigid Kiln and Frost Foundry share one production area, the real bottleneck becomes finding moulds and Gammeltrolls rather than standing at crafting stations.

Quick notes

Valheim Intricate Key crafting is much quicker once all three required stations are in one base.

Valheim Intricate Key moulds are worth keeping every time you find them.
