Frostcore in Valheim is found inside Winding Tunnels in the Deep North and is one of the first resources you should actively farm after reaching the final biome. Picking it up unlocks the recipes for the new cold-processing stations that drive most Deep North crafting.
Frostcore in Valheim matters because both the Frigid Kiln and Frost Foundry require ten Frostcore each. If you want the complete crafting loop running at your base, twenty Frostcore is the practical first target rather than stopping after the first few pieces.
Where to find Frostcore
Enter Winding Tunnels beneath abandoned Deep North settlements and search the dungeon walls. Frostcore appears as a distinctive cold mineral growth inside these tunnels.

How to find Winding Tunnels
Look for abandoned settlements and larger ruined buildings in the Deep North. The tunnel entrances are associated with these settlement areas and lead underground into long dungeon networks.
Mark entrances on your map once found. The Deep North surface can become visually repetitive during snow and bad weather, and a marked tunnel is useful even after the first clear if you missed resources or want to check nearby structures.
How much Frostcore do you need?
The Frigid Kiln needs 10 Frostcore, 20 Stone and 5 Ice. The Frost Foundry needs another 10 Frostcore, 20 Stone and 15 Iron.
That makes twenty Frostcore in Valheim the key workshop milestone. Carrying both station recipes back to your main base at once is far more efficient than building one station and immediately discovering the other requires another dungeon expedition.
What does Frostcore unlock?
The Frigid Kiln turns Ice into Liquid Frost. Liquid Frost is then used as fuel in the Frost Foundry.
The Frost Foundry hardens casts into finished Deep North items, including Nord equipment and the Intricate Key needed for Mörkhalla. Frostcore in Valheim therefore sits near the start of several later progression chains.
Do you need Frostcore for every weapon?
You do not spend Frostcore directly on every individual weapon. Its biggest role is building the stations that manufacture Deep North casts and finished gear.
Once the Frost Foundry and Frigid Kiln are established, your repeat material pressure shifts toward Ice, Liquid Frost, Bloodgold and whichever moulds are required for the item you want.
Best Frostcore farming approach
Treat each Winding Tunnel as a full resource run. Bring strong food, inventory space and enough durability to clear enemies instead of dipping in for one visible Frostcore and leaving.
While searching for Frostcore in Valheim, collect useful moulds and remember that the Intricate Key mould is consumed when you turn it into a cast. Extra moulds become valuable later when you need several Mörkhalla keys.
Can Frostcore go through portals?
Frostcore is a crafting material rather than a smelted metal bar, making it much easier to move than the heavy Bloodgold side of Deep North progression.
That means your main problem is finding enough Frostcore in Valheim, not building a shipping route for every piece. A portal near a safe Deep North base makes repeated Winding Tunnel runs far less painful.
What to do after collecting 20 Frostcore
Build the Frigid Kiln and Frost Foundry close together. Mine extra Ice, run the kiln to create Liquid Frost and start converting mould-based casts into finished items.
At that point, Frostcore in Valheim has done its main job: it has opened the crafting backbone for Bloodgold gear, Intricate Keys and the rest of the Deep North progression chain.
What else should you loot in the same run?
Winding Tunnels are too dangerous and too useful to visit only for one blue resource. Search destructible piles and enemy drops for moulds while you are there, especially the Intricate Key mould needed later for Mörkhalla.
Eyeless Ones and Elakings also make the dungeon more than a simple mining trip. Clear rooms carefully instead of sprinting past enemies, because a death deep underground costs more time than an extra minute spent controlling a doorway.
Should you build the stations in Deep North?
You can, but you do not have to. A northern workshop is convenient if you plan to spend a long time in the biome, while an established main base may already have the storage, Black Forge and Blast Furnace infrastructure you need.
The important thing is logistics. Put a portal near a safe outpost, keep Stone and Iron ready for the station recipes, and decide where the Bloodgold side of the crafting chain will happen. Once those decisions are made, farming another tunnel feels much more purposeful.
Quick notes
Frostcore in Valheim is worth collecting beyond the first recipe unlock.
Frostcore in Valheim farming is most efficient when you clear the whole tunnel rather than one room.
Frostcore in Valheim should be treated as a workshop resource first and a general stockpile second.
