Bloodgold in Valheim is the core Deep North metal used for Nord gear and important progression crafts such as the Intricate Key cast. You do not mine Bloodgold from a normal ore deposit. Instead, the resource starts with one of the biome’s biggest enemies: the Gammeltroll.
Bloodgold in Valheim comes from Petrified Tissue. Kill a Gammeltroll, destroy parts of its petrified body with Ember Charges, collect the tissue and process it in a Blast Furnace with coal.
Step 1: find and kill a Gammeltroll

Gammeltrolls roam the Deep North surface rather than living in one fixed dungeon. They are huge, heavily resistant enemies with dangerous close-range and ranged attacks.
Fight with your best late-game gear, strong food and enough stamina to dodge or block. Killing the creature is only half of the Bloodgold in Valheim process because the corpse petrifies instead of dropping ordinary loot.
Step 2: make Ember Charges
Ember Charges are required to break the petrified Gammeltroll. They use Embers and Seal Pelts, linking the Bloodgold chain back to both Ashlands and Deep North materials.
Bring the charges before starting the fight. A normal pickaxe does not simply turn the petrified body into useful tissue after the kill.
Step 3: harvest Petrified Tissue
Throw Ember Charges at the petrified Gammeltroll, particularly around the legs and breakable body sections. The explosions shatter the stone remains and release Petrified Tissue.
Collect as much as your carry weight allows. Petrified Tissue is heavy, so plan the return journey before loading yourself beyond a sensible movement speed.
Step 4: process Petrified Tissue into Bloodgold
Take the Petrified Tissue to a Blast Furnace and add coal. The processed output is Bloodgold.
This is the actual metal stage. Bloodgold in Valheim is therefore a manufactured endgame resource built from creature harvesting rather than a traditional ore-mining loop.

What is Bloodgold used for?
Bloodgold is used throughout Deep North equipment crafting and mould-based casts. Nord weapons and armour progression depend heavily on it.
The Intricate Key is one of the clearest examples. Its cast costs five Bloodgold plus one Mould: Intricate Key at a level 4 Black Forge before the cast is hardened in a Frost Foundry.
How much Bloodgold should you keep?
Do not spend the first five ingots on a weapon if you urgently need a Mörkhalla key. Deep North progression competes with gear crafting for the same material.
Because you ultimately need multiple Intricate Keys, Bloodgold in Valheim remains relevant well after your first successful smelt. Keep a reserve instead of crafting every new weapon recipe immediately.
Can Bloodgold go through normal portals?
Treat Bloodgold like an endgame metal and plan transport accordingly. The Deep North also introduces heavier materials and Stone Portal logistics, so a permanent northern staging base saves repeated long journeys.
You can process Petrified Tissue closer to where you collect it if your infrastructure supports that, or move the raw material back to an established Blast Furnace setup.
Best Bloodgold farming loop
Scout Deep North surface areas for Gammeltrolls, carry Ember Charges before engaging, harvest every petrified body and return the tissue in efficient loads.
Bloodgold in Valheim stops feeling rare once that loop is organised. The awkward part is not the Blast Furnace; it is consistently finding Gammeltrolls and arriving with the explosives needed to turn their stone bodies into usable material.
Bloodgold versus normal ore progression
Deep North deliberately changes the usual metal routine. Copper, Iron and Silver teach you to find ore, move it home and smelt it. Bloodgold starts with a monster hunt instead.
That makes preparation more important than simply carrying a pickaxe. You need a way to kill the Gammeltroll, Ember Charges for the petrified body, enough carrying capacity for the tissue and access to a Blast Furnace afterward.
What should you spend Bloodgold on first?
If you are still blocked from Mörkhalla, reserve enough for the Intricate Key cast before experimenting with optional gear. The key consumes five Bloodgold, and you will eventually need more than one.
Once progression is secure, spend the remaining supply on Nord equipment that improves the build you actually use. Bloodgold is renewable through additional Gammeltroll hunts, but every ingot represents combat, explosive harvesting and transport, so wasting the first batch feels much worse than wasting an ordinary bronze bar.
Quick notes
Bloodgold in Valheim is too useful to spend without a plan.
Bloodgold in Valheim also competes between progression keys and optional gear.
Bloodgold in Valheim becomes much easier to maintain once Gammeltroll hunting is routine.
Bloodgold in Valheim is worth reserving before you experiment with optional Deep North crafts.
