Is Pokémon Winds and Waves on Nintendo Switch 1? No. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves have been announced exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, with a worldwide release planned for 2027. The original Switch, including its OLED and Lite models, isn’t among the confirmed systems.
That may be disappointing if you still own Nintendo’s first Switch, especially because some Pokémon releases have supported both generations. Here is exactly which hardware is confirmed and what the announcement means if you’re planning to buy either game.
Is Pokémon Winds and Waves on Nintendo Switch 1?
Nintendo Switch 2 is the only confirmed platform. The Pokémon Company explicitly describes Winds and Waves as Switch 2 exclusives, and Nintendo’s official listings show that system for both versions.
No original Switch edition, separate Switch 1 release date or cross-generation upgrade has been announced. Under the current plans, you need Nintendo Switch 2 hardware to play.
| Platform | Availability |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Confirmed |
| Nintendo Switch 1 | Not announced |
| Nintendo Switch OLED | Not announced |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | Not announced |
| PlayStation 5 | Not announced |
| Xbox Series X and S | Not announced |
| PC | Not announced |
The platform list is based on official announcements, not predictions about future ports. Nothing from Pokémon or Nintendo establishes compatibility with the older console.
Will the games launch on Switch 1 in 2027?
No Switch 1 release has been announced for launch. So is Pokémon Winds and Waves on Nintendo Switch 1 when the games arrive? Not according to the published plans, which name Switch 2 exclusively.
The games are scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide launch in 2027, but Nintendo hasn’t provided an exact day or month. That lack of a firm date doesn’t change the announced hardware.
Is Pokémon Winds and Waves on Nintendo Switch 1 OLED or Lite?
The OLED and Lite models belong to the original Nintendo Switch generation. Neither is a Nintendo Switch 2, so neither is included in the confirmed release announcement.
An OLED screen won’t make software built for Switch 2 run on the older hardware. If you’re asking is Pokémon Winds and Waves on Nintendo Switch 1 because you have an OLED model, the same answer applies.
Why isn’t Pokémon Winds and Waves on Switch 1?
The Pokémon Company hasn’t explained the platform decision in technical terms. The announcement shows an island-and-ocean open world with Pokémon ecosystems, but it doesn’t identify any particular graphics effect or processing requirement as the reason for exclusivity.
It would be guesswork to blame water rendering, map size or performance without a developer statement. The confirmed information is the platform choice itself.
Our platforms guide covers the announcement alongside PlayStation, Xbox and PC availability.
Is this different from Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Pokémon Legends: Z-A released across both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Winds and Waves were announced for Switch 2 only, making this a different purchasing situation.
A previous game supporting two generations doesn’t imply that Winds and Waves will eventually add an original Switch edition. No such port is currently part of the official plans.
Could Pokémon Winds and Waves come to Switch 1 later?
No later port has been announced. Nintendo or Pokémon would have to reveal one before it could be treated as a genuine option, and there isn’t an official release window or product listing for that possibility.
For now, is Pokémon Winds and Waves on Nintendo Switch 1? No confirmed edition exists. If you want to play the new adventure, the only announced choice is Nintendo Switch 2.
When are the games released?
Both games are planned for a worldwide launch in 2027, with the exact release date and pre-order opening day still unknown. Nintendo also hasn’t announced the final price.
That means is Pokémon Winds and Waves on Nintendo Switch 1 has a clear answer even while purchasing details remain incomplete. See our release-date article or Nintendo’s official Switch 2 listing.
