Rust Crocodile Pie is a new food item added in the 5 November 2026 Printed and Polished update, and its most important effect isn’t hunger restoration. Eating it intimidates nearby animals, causing several dangerous species to back off rather than attack.

It’s handy for moving past predators and working around bulls or rams on a farm. The Rich version lasts twice as long. Here’s what Rust Crocodile Pie affects.

Eating the pie creates an aura that scares off certain animals. They don’t all react the same way:

Rams and bulls don’t run away. They stop charging, which is useful when tending livestock.

How to make Crocodile Pie in Rust

The pie is prepared at the cooking workbench using Crocodile Meat. Facepunch introduced it as a way to use meat collected from crocodiles in the jungle and turn it into a protective food effect.

Check the cooking workbench for the complete recipe and quantities. The November notes confirm Crocodile Meat but don’t list the other ingredients.

Keep in mind that the protection is tied to using the food, not simply carrying Crocodile Meat. The meat is the ingredient; Rust Crocodile Pie is the finished item that supplies the animal-deterrent effect.

What is the difference between regular and Rich Crocodile Pie?

Rich Crocodile Pie lasts twice as long as the regular version. That is the comparison Facepunch gives for the new Rich recipe, and it’s the only published duration relationship worth relying on without seeing exact current values in the game.

Exact minute counts aren’t listed, but the comparison is simple: Rich Crocodile Pie lasts twice as long as standard pie.

Does Crocodile Pie protect you from players or scientists?

No such effect is included in the official description. The new food influences nearby animals; it is not a stealth item, player deterrent or defence against hostile NPC scientists. Don’t mistake it for a universal safe-travel buff.

Don’t assume every animal reacts the same way. The listed predators flee; rams and bulls stop charging.

When is Crocodile Pie most useful?

There are two obvious situations. The first is moving through areas where wolves, bears, boars or bees can interrupt what you’re doing. The second is maintaining a livestock setup with rams and bulls, where avoiding a charge while working in the enclosure can make routine care less awkward.

It can also be handy while travelling around water because sharks are explicitly included among the animals affected. But it doesn’t remove ordinary survival risks, and it doesn’t mean a boat crossing or a dive is free of other dangers.

For farmers, Rust Crocodile Pie works alongside November’s other animal-focused additions. Shears help gather Wool safely, while the new Wool Armour Insert uses that resource to improve cold resistance. Those are separate features, but together they make keeping animals more worthwhile.

When was Crocodile Pie added?

Rust Crocodile Pie was added to PC Rust on 5 November 2026. That announcement isn’t confirmation of the same feature in Console Edition.
