RuneScape Slayer drop rate changes planned for late November 2026 would improve certain rare drops, especially while you’re on a Slayer task. The Abyssal Whip would have a 1/512 chance on task, while the off-task rate would remain 1/1,024. Jagex also proposes big improvements for Lava Strykewyrm parts.
Jagex announced these figures on 30 October and they aren’t live yet. The task rates only apply when you’re assigned the relevant monster. Here’s the comparison, along with the changes to the Abyssal Whip’s stats and Raptor’s Chest rewards.
RuneScape Slayer drop rate changes: task and off-task table
| Monster and reward | Current | Proposed |
|---|---|---|
| Abyssal Demon, Abyssal Whip, on task | 1/1,024 | 1/512 |
| Abyssal Demon, Abyssal Whip, off task | 1/1,024 | 1/1,024 (unchanged) |
| Abyssal Demon, Abyssal Wand or Orb, on task, each | 1/6,104 | 1/2,048 |
| Abyssal Demon, Wand or Orb, off task | 1/6,104 | 1/6,104 (unchanged) |
| Lava Strykewyrm, Wyrm Spike/Heart/Scalp, on task | 1/6,105 | 1/256 |
| Lava Strykewyrm, Wyrm Spike/Heart/Scalp, off task | 1/12,288 | 1/1,280 |
| Ice Strykewyrm, Staff of Light, on task | 1/512 | 1/256 |
| Ice Strykewyrm, Staff of Light, off task | 1/2,000 | 1/1,024 |
These rates apply to the listed rewards, not every item from those monsters. Some off-task odds remain unchanged, so picking up the right Slayer assignment could make a big difference.

Will Abyssal Whip drops become easier?
Yes, while on an Abyssal Demon task. Jagex plans a 1/512 Abyssal Whip chance on task. Off task, the rate would remain 1/1,024. Abyssal Wand and Orb also get better on-task odds, moving to 1/2,048 each, while their off-task chance stays 1/6,104.
Jagex also plans to increase the Abyssal Whip’s damage and accuracy from Tier 70 to Tier 75. Its equip requirement stays the same. That’s a separate equipment improvement alongside the new on-task drop chance.
Are Lava Strykewyrm parts easier to farm off task?
Under the preview, yes. The Wyrm Spike, Heart and Scalp would improve from 1/12,288 to 1/1,280 off task. On task, Jagex’s proposal is even stronger, moving from 1/6,105 to 1/256. That’s a significant improvement for anyone hunting a Spike, Heart or Scalp during a Lava Strykewyrm task.
Those fractions are chances per eligible kill, not guaranteed drops after 256 or 1,280 kills.
RuneScape Slayer drop rate changes for Ice Strykewyrms
The Staff of Light would improve from 1/512 to 1/256 on task. Off task, the proposed change is from 1/2,000 to 1/1,024. Players should use the correct row depending on whether an assignment is active.
The Staff of Light has its own rates; the same numbers don’t apply to Abyssal Demons or Lava Strykewyrms.
RuneScape Slayer drop rate changes: Raptor Key pieces
Jagex plans for Living Wyverns, Camel Warriors, Ripper Demons and Acheron Mammoths to drop a Raptor Key piece at a rate of 1/100 kills. The proposal also removes Slayer Points, Raptor lamps and Slayer VIP Tickets from Raptor’s Chest rewards.
Slayer VIP Tickets are different from Slayer VIP Tokens. Jagex plans to remove the Tickets while retaining Tokens through Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza.
When will the RuneScape Slayer drop rate changes go live?
Jagex is aiming for late November 2026, with no confirmed release day. These proposed RuneScape Slayer drop rate changes may still be adjusted before the final patch.
For RuneScape Slayer drop rate changes, the key planning question is whether you’re fighting on task. The proposed rates for an Abyssal Whip, Lava Strykewyrm parts and Staff of Light are explicitly different on and off assignment, making the task distinction worth checking before setting out.
