The RuneScape Alchemiser Mk 2 nerf would cut processing speed to 15 items an hour and reduce the maximum number of Mk. 2 machines from two to one. The changes are part of Jagex’s 30 October 2026 rebalance preview and are planned for late November, not active in the game yet.

Anyone currently running two machines would be hit hardest. Together they can process 50 items per hour now, compared with 15 under the proposal. There are also changes to storage and machine charges, so here’s the full breakdown before you decide how to prepare.

The smaller storage limit affects even players who only use one machine, while the one-machine cap reduces how much a fully built setup can process. The batch charge figure falls, but that alone doesn’t establish how profitable a particular item will be.

How big is the reduction for two Mk. 2 machines?

At 25 items an hour each, two machines currently handle 50 items every hour. With only one allowed at the proposed 15 items an hour, you’d process 35 fewer items per hour. That’s a 70% reduction in maximum throughput.

The RuneScape Alchemiser Mk 2 nerf doesn’t mean everybody loses 70% of their profit. Your actual GP return depends on the alchemy value of the items, how much you pay for them, the machine’s operating costs and whether you keep it running continuously.

What about the regular Alchemiser?

The basic Alchemiser is affected too. Jagex proposes lowering its maximum number of machines from two to one and increasing its charge cost per batch from 45 to 65.

Keep the two sets of numbers separate. It’s the Mk. 2 that slows from 25 to 15 items an hour and has its batch charge reduced from 150 to 120. Jagex’s announcement does not describe the same throughput change for the standard machine.

Why is Jagex making these changes?

Alchemisers automatically turn stored items into GP. Jagex identifies them as a major source of gold entering the RuneScape economy and says it wants to reduce that contribution to inflation.

The RuneScape Alchemiser Mk 2 nerf targets the rate at which these machines create coins, rather than removing automatic alchemy outright. Jagex is also reviewing the supply of items commonly used for alching, although it hasn’t announced specific additional changes to those items in this preview.

What happens if you’ve already built two machines?

That’s the biggest unanswered transition question for existing players. The design preview gives the new limit but no instructions for dealing with a second installed Mk. 2 machine, and it doesn’t announce a refund or a method for transferring stored items.

Before the RuneScape Alchemiser Mk 2 nerf arrives, check what’s in both machines and note your current item costs and returns. There’s no reason to dismantle one in advance based on a compensation scheme that hasn’t been announced.

Will the charge reduction make alching cheaper?

The Mk. 2’s quoted charge cost would fall from 150 to 120 per batch. That’s a lower figure per batch, but it isn’t automatically a lower cost for every item you process, and it certainly isn’t a fixed GP saving. You need the final machine settings and your specific items to compare margins properly.

For anyone looking at the RuneScape Alchemiser Mk 2 nerf as a money-making change, the safest comparison is throughput first, then your own costs. The fixed 50-to-15-items-an-hour example is useful; a universal GP-per-hour prediction isn’t.

When does the Alchemiser Mk 2 nerf go live?

Jagex is targeting late November 2026 for the wider rebalance. The 30 October preview didn’t name an exact release day and says the details could change before the update launches.

The RuneScape Alchemiser Mk 2 nerf remains a proposal as of 2 November. Check the final update notes for both the confirmed machine numbers and instructions for players who already own two machines.
