The Warframe Prologue to Tau Crash in The Dark Refractory is now marked resolved. Hotfix 44.1.2 + 2.1 targets the crashes and severe performance drops that could happen when the Lua chapter tried to load that area.
If the quest kicked you out earlier, install the latest Warframe update and try the Lua section again. Digital Extremes also shared a Calm Necralisk workaround while the permanent fix was being prepared, so there is an official fallback to try if the current build still misbehaves.
How to fix the Warframe Prologue to Tau Crash

Install Hotfix 44.1.2 + 2.1 before going back into the Prologue to Tau. Digital Extremes specifically says that revision fixes crashes and severe performance problems when entering The Dark Refractory.
The official PSA was updated at 2:33 p.m. ET to say the incident should be resolved. If Warframe was already running when the hotfix landed, close it, install the update and restart before trying the quest again.
What caused the Dark Refractory crash?
While investigating the Warframe Prologue to Tau Crash, Digital Extremes linked the problem to multiple players gathering in The Dark Refractory. That explains why the temporary workaround sent players through a quieter instance.
The hotfix notes stop at the Dark Refractory entry issue and give no deeper technical cause. There is nothing in the official fix asking you to lower graphics settings, reinstall the game or delete local files.
Official Calm Necralisk workaround
Before the hotfix was ready, Digital Extremes told affected players to enter a Calm Necralisk instance and then Fast Travel back to the Sanctum Anatomica. That route was getting some players into The Dark Refractory without the crash.
The hotfix is now the main solution. If the Warframe Prologue to Tau Crash still appears on the latest build, the Calm-instance route remains the only workaround Digital Extremes published for this exact issue.
Do you need to restart the whole Tau Prologue?
You should not need to wipe or restart the entire quest. Update Warframe and return to the Prologue to Tau from the point your current quest progress allows.
If the crash made you miss a cutscene or dialogue, Digital Extremes staff confirmed that the Tau Prologue is replayable. Finish it when you can, then replay the story from the Codex.
Warframe Prologue to Tau Crash still happening after the hotfix
Check that the newest game update has installed, then fully restart Warframe before retrying The Dark Refractory. The resolved PSA asks anyone still hitting the crash after the hotfix to report it back to Digital Extremes.
If it still fails at the same spot, include your platform and the exact point where The Dark Refractory crashes when you report it. The original incident is already marked resolved, so a repeat on the current build is useful new information for the developers.
For most players, the Warframe Prologue to Tau Crash should be gone once Hotfix 44.1.2 + 2.1 is installed, so repeated crashes on the current build are worth reporting.
Is the Prologue to Tau crash related to Taubound?
No. The Warframe Prologue to Tau Crash belongs to the permanent Tau Prologue quest. Epoch Operation: Taubound is a separate limited event on Eris with Moonflesh, Tactical Alerts and Praghasa’s reward shop.
The Hex and The Old Peace unlock the Tau Prologue. Taubound only asks for Vor’s Prize, so the event remains available even if the Prologue is still giving you trouble.
