Valheim Mods Work With 1.0 only when the individual mod and its dependencies have been updated for the release build. Iron Gate does not provide official mod support and explicitly warns that mods can take time to catch up after major game updates.
Valheim Mods Work With 1.0 is therefore not a simple yes or no. Some lightweight mods may survive, while mods that depend on BepInEx, game internals, UI hooks, world generation or old item IDs can break until their authors release compatible versions.
Does Valheim officially support mods?
No. Iron Gate is happy that players create mods, but the studio does not provide official mod support or guarantee compatibility with new versions.
That means modding remains at your own risk, especially when loading a valuable world immediately after a major patch.

Why 1.0 can break mods
Version 1.0 includes a Unity engine upgrade, new systems, new items, the Deep North and many internal changes.
Mods that reference changed code or assets can stop loading, throw errors or behave unpredictably even if they worked perfectly on the final Early Access build.
Should you disable BepInEx first?
If your installation fails to start after updating, temporarily removing or disabling the mod loader is one of the first troubleshooting steps.
Iron Gate has given the same advice around previous major updates: a mod loader can still try to load incompatible plugins even if you think individual mods are disabled.
Can old mods corrupt a world?
A broken cosmetic mod may simply fail to display. A mod that changes world generation, inventories, custom items or building pieces can create more serious save problems.
Back up both character and world saves before testing a 1.0 mod list. Never use your only copy of a long-running server as the experiment.

Is there Steam Workshop support?
No. Valheim 1.0 does not introduce Steam Workshop integration.
PC modding still relies on community tools and distribution services rather than an official in-game or Workshop browser.
Do consoles have mods?
No official console mod support is included with 1.0. That applies to Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
Full crossplay does not change that. A modded PC client also needs to be compatible with the server and other players rather than assuming every crossplay user can install the same files.
How to check whether a mod is ready
Look for a post-1.0 update from the mod author and confirm that required frameworks have also been updated.
A mod page saying it worked six months ago is not enough evidence after a full release with an engine upgrade.
Best way to return to a modded world
Start the vanilla game first, confirm the save loads, then add updated mods in small groups rather than dropping an old 80-mod folder straight back in.
Valheim Mods Work With 1.0 when the community has updated them. Until then, patience is safer than turning a favourite world into a compatibility test.
Server mod compatibility
A server can also fail when client and server mod lists or versions no longer agree. Update frameworks first, then server-side plugins, then client mods in a controlled order.
Valheim Mods Work With 1.0 only after the relevant authors have caught up with the release build and its dependencies.
