Unown M Pokémon GO is one of the 28 different Unown forms available to collect, with each form representing a letter of the alphabet or one of the two punctuation symbols. Unown is notoriously difficult to find through normal gameplay, so most Trainers will encounter Unown M during special events rather than through ordinary wild spawns.

What Is Unown M in Pokémon GO?
Unown M is one of the alphabet forms of Unown, the Symbol Pokémon introduced in Generation II.
All Unown forms share the same Pokédex number, typing and base stats, but each letter is tracked as a separate form for collection purposes.
That means catching another Unown letter does not automatically complete Unown M Pokémon GO in your collection.
There are currently 28 Unown forms to collect in total:
- A through Z
- Unown !
- Unown ?
For collectors, completing the full Unown alphabet is one of the longer-term challenges in Pokémon GO.
Unown M Pokémon GO Type
Unown is a Psychic-type Pokémon.
The M form has exactly the same typing as every other Unown form.
Unown M Weaknesses
Because Unown M Pokémon GO is a Psychic-type Pokémon, it shares the same weaknesses as the other Unown forms.
These weaknesses are rarely the main reason Trainers search for Unown, as the Pokémon is much more valuable as a rare collectible than as a battle option.
Unown M Resistances and Defenses
Unown also shares the same defensive profile across all 28 forms.

How to Get Unown M in Pokémon GO
Finding Unown M Pokémon GO through ordinary wild gameplay is possible, but Unown is exceptionally rare outside events.
The far more realistic way to obtain a specific Unown letter is to wait for an event that includes that letter in its spawn or Incense pool.
Pokémon GO regularly uses Unown letters to spell words connected to live events, locations, themes or celebrations. This means individual letters can become dramatically easier to find during one event while remaining almost impossible to encounter during another.
For Unown collectors, watching event announcements is therefore essential.
Is Unown M Available in the Wild?
Yes, Unown can technically appear as an extremely rare wild Pokémon.
However, trying to specifically hunt Unown M Pokémon GO through random wild spawns is not a practical strategy for most players.
The form of a naturally appearing Unown is not something you can choose, and its overall wild rarity means you could play for a very long time without seeing any Unown at all. Serebii notes that all 28 forms exist and that event appearances are the main reliable way particular letters become obtainable in larger numbers.
Can Unown M Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?
Yes. Shiny Unown M is available in Pokémon GO.
Serebii’s current Shiny Pokémon list includes Unown M as available when encountered.
That does not mean every Unown M encounter will always have a Shiny chance under every circumstance. Unown Shiny availability has historically been closely connected with special events, so it is always worth checking the details of the specific event in which Unown M appears.
Finding Shiny Unown M can be particularly difficult simply because opportunities to encounter the M form are limited.
Unown M Pokémon GO Stats
All Unown forms use the same underlying stats.
336This means Unown M Pokémon GO has no battle advantage or disadvantage compared with Unown A, Unown B or any other letter.
The difference is entirely visual and collectible.
Does Unown M Evolve?
No. Unown does not evolve in Pokémon GO.
Catching Unown M therefore completes that particular form without requiring Candy for an evolution.
There is also no way to evolve one Unown letter into another.
If you want Unown M, you need to actually encounter or trade for the M form itself.
Can You Change One Unown Letter Into Another?
No.
An Unown’s form is fixed when you encounter it. You cannot transform another letter into Unown M Pokémon GO, and there is no form-change mechanic for Unown.
This is why completing the full alphabet requires catching or trading for every individual form.
Is Unown M Rare in Pokémon GO?
Yes.
All Unown forms are famously rare outside special events, and individual letters can be even harder to obtain because event pools usually contain only selected forms.
An event featuring Unown may not include Unown M at all.
When M is specifically announced for an event, that is therefore one of the best opportunities to catch multiple copies, look for a Shiny and save extras for trading.
Can You Trade Unown M?
Yes. Unown M can be traded.
Trading is one of the best ways to fill gaps in an Unown collection because another Trainer may have encountered M during an event you did not attend.
For serious Unown collectors, keeping duplicate letters can be worthwhile specifically for this reason.
An extra Unown M could be exchanged for another missing letter later.
Are All Unown Forms the Same Pokémon?
Technically, yes.
Every Unown form shares Pokédex number #201 and belongs to the same species.
However, Pokémon GO displays the different letters and punctuation symbols as separate forms, making the entire alphabet a collection challenge.
| Detail | Unown M |
|---|---|
| Pokédex number | #201 |
| Generation | Generation II |
| Type | Psychic |
| Form | M |
| Shiny available | Yes |
| Evolves | No |
| Wild availability | Extremely rare |

Why Unown Events Matter
Events are particularly important when collecting Unown M Pokémon GO because they are the only realistic way most Trainers will intentionally hunt a specific letter.
Pokémon GO has repeatedly used selected Unown forms during GO Fest, Wild Area and other major events.
For example, GO Fest 2026 Global included Unown among its event encounters, while recent Wild Area events have continued introducing or featuring specific Unown forms.
The exact letters change from event to event, so an announcement featuring M is worth taking advantage of if it is missing from your collection.
Should You Keep Duplicate Unown M?
Yes, particularly if you are interested in trading.
Unown letters can have very different levels of availability depending on which events a Trainer has attended.
A letter you have several copies of may be completely missing from another player’s collection.
Keeping at least one spare Unown M Pokémon GO can therefore be useful when trying to trade for another rare Unown form.
