Stakataka Pokémon GO: Shiny, Best Moveset, Weaknesses and Raid Counters

Stakataka Pokémon GO
Stakataka Pokémon GO

Stakataka Pokémon GO encounters give Trainers the chance to catch the enormous Rampart Pokémon and one of the most defensive Ultra Beasts. Its unusual Rock and Steel typing creates two double weaknesses, making this otherwise bulky raid boss much easier to defeat with the correct counters.

This Stakataka Pokémon GO guide covers shiny Stakataka, its weaknesses, the best raid counters, perfect IV catch CP, strongest moveset and whether Stakataka is worth using in raids or the GO Battle League.

ROCKSTEEL

Stakataka is a dual Rock and Steel-type Pokémon. This combination gives Stakataka Pokémon GO battles a long list of resistances, but it also leaves the Ultra Beast extremely vulnerable to Fighting and Ground-type attacks.

Can Stakataka Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

Yes, shiny Stakataka is available in Pokémon GO.

Regular Stakataka has a dark grey body made from numerous blocks, with glowing blue lines and eyes. Shiny Stakataka changes the blue sections to bright yellow and gold, making the shiny version reasonably easy to recognise during the catch encounter.

A shiny encounter is not guaranteed after winning a Stakataka Pokémon GO raid. Trainers may need to complete several raids before shiny Stakataka appears.

Stakataka will not look shiny while it is being battled. The shiny check happens after the Ultra Beast has been defeated and the catch encounter begins.

During geographically divided events, Stakataka is normally assigned to the Eastern Hemisphere. Trainers in the Western Hemisphere may need to join a Remote Raid or wait for an event that makes it available worldwide.

Stakataka Pokémon GO Weaknesses

The Stakataka Pokémon GO weaknesses are:

  • Fighting-type attacks
  • Ground-type attacks
  • Water-type attacks
FIGHTING4×GROUND4×WATER2×

Stakataka is double weak to both Fighting and Ground-type damage. This happens because Rock and Steel are each weak to those two attack types.

Water attacks deal ordinary super-effective damage and can still be useful, but Fighting and Ground Pokémon should be prioritised whenever possible.

Stakataka resists several attack types, including:

  • Bug
  • Dragon
  • Fairy
  • Flying
  • Ice
  • Normal
  • Poison
  • Psychic
  • Rock

Poison and Normal-type attacks are particularly ineffective against Stakataka.

Cloudy weather boosts Fighting attacks, while Sunny or Clear weather boosts Ground attacks. Partly Cloudy and Snowy weather boost Stakataka and increase its catch CP after the raid.

Best Stakataka Pokémon GO Raid Counters

The best Stakataka Pokémon GO counters are powerful Fighting and Ground-type attackers equipped with matching moves.

PokémonRecommended moves
Mega LucarioForce Palm and Aura Sphere
Primal GroudonMud Shot and Precipice Blades
Mega HeracrossCounter and Close Combat
Shadow GroudonMud Shot and Precipice Blades
Mega GarchompMud Shot and Earth Power
TerrakionDouble Kick and Sacred Sword
KeldeoLow Kick and Sacred Sword
Shadow MachampCounter and Dynamic Punch
Therian Forme LandorusMud Shot and Sandsear Storm
LucarioForce Palm and Aura Sphere

Mega Lucario and Primal Groudon are among the strongest Stakataka Pokémon GO raid counters. Both can take advantage of a double weakness and remove the raid boss’s health quickly.

Mega Heracross, Terrakion, Shadow Groudon and Mega Garchomp are also excellent choices.

Some recommended attacks, including Aura Sphere, Precipice Blades, Earth Power, Sacred Sword and Sandsear Storm, may require an Elite TM when they are unavailable through regular TMs.

Trainers without top-tier Mega, Shadow or Legendary Pokémon can use Machamp, Conkeldurr, Hariyama, Excadrill, Garchomp or Rhyperior.

Water Pokémon such as Primal Kyogre can still deal useful damage, but they will not match counters exploiting one of Stakataka’s double weaknesses.

How Many Trainers Are Needed to Beat Stakataka?

Stakataka has an exceptionally high Defence stat, but its double Fighting and Ground weaknesses make the raid manageable with a prepared group.

Two experienced Trainers using powerful counters may be able to defeat Stakataka under favourable conditions. Most players should aim for at least three or four Trainers.

Group sizeRecommendation
One TrainerNot normally possible
Two TrainersPossible with exceptional counters
Three TrainersAchievable with strong teams
Four or fiveRecommended for most groups

A larger Stakataka Pokémon GO raid group may be needed when counters are underlevelled, friendship bonuses are unavailable or players are relying on the automatic recommended party.

Party Power, Mega or Primal bonuses, suitable weather and high friendship levels can make the battle significantly easier.

Stakataka Pokémon GO Perfect IV CP

The perfect IV Stakataka Pokémon GO catch values are:

Encounter conditionsPerfect IV CP
Level 20 without weather boost1,882 CP
Level 25 with Partly Cloudy or Snowy weather2,353 CP

A Stakataka caught at 1,882 CP after a standard non-weather-boosted raid will have perfect 15/15/15 IVs.

A weather-boosted Stakataka caught at 2,353 CP will also have perfect IVs.

Stakataka has a large body and catch circle, but Ultra Beasts can still break free repeatedly. Use Golden Razz Berries and aim for Excellent Curveball Throws whenever possible.

Perfect IVs are useful for maximising Stakataka’s CP, although lower-Attack combinations may occasionally be considered for limited PvP formats.

Best Stakataka Pokémon GO Moveset

The best Stakataka Pokémon GO moveset for Rock-type raid damage is:

  • Fast Attack: Rock Throw
  • Charged Attack: Stone Edge

Rock Throw and Stone Edge give Stakataka a complete Rock-type moveset, with both attacks receiving the same-type attack bonus.

Stakataka can use the following attacks:

Fast Attacks

  • Rock Throw
  • Take Down

Charged Attacks

  • Stone Edge
  • Flash Cannon
  • Bulldoze

Rock Throw is the clear choice for raid damage. Take Down does not provide useful same-type damage and performs poorly compared with Rock Throw.

Stone Edge gives Stakataka its strongest Rock-type combination. Flash Cannon provides Steel-type damage, while Bulldoze offers Ground-type coverage.

The Stakataka Pokémon GO moveset is functional, but its low Attack stat prevents it from competing with the strongest Rock-type raid attackers.

Is Stakataka Good in Pokémon GO Raids?

Stakataka is not considered a priority raid attacker.

Its enormous Defence allows it to survive for a long time, but raid battles reward dealing damage quickly. Stakataka’s Attack stat is much lower than those of the best Rock and Steel-type options.

Stronger Rock-type raid attackers include:

  • Mega Diancie
  • Shadow Rhyperior
  • Rampardos
  • Shadow Tyranitar
  • Tyrantrum

Stronger Steel-type attackers include:

  • Dusk Mane Necrozma
  • Crowned Sword Zacian
  • Shadow Metagross
  • Metagross
  • Shadow Excadrill

The Stakataka Pokémon GO raid moveset can still be used against Fire, Flying, Bug and Ice-type bosses, but most Trainers will have more effective alternatives.

Is Stakataka Good in PvP?

Stakataka has limited value in the GO Battle League.

Its high Defence gives it good durability, but its typing creates serious vulnerabilities to common Fighting, Ground and Water Pokémon. Its available attacks are also relatively slow and do not provide consistent shield pressure.

A possible Stakataka Pokémon GO PvP moveset is:

  • Fast Attack: Rock Throw
  • Charged Attack: Stone Edge
  • Second Charged Attack: Bulldoze

Rock Throw applies steady damage against Flying, Fire, Bug and Ice-type opponents. Bulldoze provides coverage against Steel and Electric Pokémon, while Stone Edge delivers heavy Rock-type damage.

However, Stakataka remains a specialist option rather than a dependable Great League, Ultra League or Master League investment.

What Is Stakataka?

Stakataka is an Ultra Beast introduced in Generation VII. It is known by the code name UB Assembly and resembles a huge tower built from individual stone creatures.

Each block forming Stakataka is a separate living organism. When threatened, the blocks combine and move together as a single enormous Pokémon.

It appeared from an Ultra Wormhole. Each one appears to be made up of many life-forms stacked one on top of each other.

Is Stakataka Pokémon GO Worth Raiding?

Stakataka Pokémon GO raids are worth completing for the Pokédex entry, shiny chance, Stakataka Candy and regional collection value.

Stakataka is not a priority raid or PvP investment, so most Trainers will not need to spend large amounts of Rare Candy or Stardust on it.

Collectors may still want to continue raiding for shiny Stakataka, perfect IVs or additional Candy. Its usual Eastern Hemisphere availability also makes worldwide and Remote Raid appearances useful for Trainers who cannot normally access it.
