How Much Candy Do You Need for Alolan Sandslash?
It costs 50 Sandshrew Candy to evolve Alolan Sandshrew into Alolan Sandslash.
Because Alolan Sandshrew will appear more frequently from August 28 through August 30, Trainers who are short on Candy have a dedicated event window to collect more.
Anyone who already has 50 Candy and a good Alolan Sandshrew can obtain Shadow Claw Alolan Sandslash Pokémon GO as soon as the featured attack period begins on August 25.
Can You Evolve an Old Alolan Sandshrew for Shadow Claw?
Yes. An Alolan Sandshrew caught before PokémonXP can still be evolved into Alolan Sandslash with Shadow Claw during the event.
The featured attack applies to eligible Pokémon evolved during the event, so there is no requirement to catch the Alolan Sandshrew between August 25 and August 30.
This is particularly useful for Trainers who already have a high-stat, PvP-focused or Shiny Alolan Sandshrew saved in their storage.
Can Shiny Alolan Sandslash Get Shadow Claw?
Yes. A Shiny Alolan Sandshrew can be evolved into a Shiny Shadow Claw Alolan Sandslash during Pokémon GO Worlds 2026.
Alolan Sandshrew is also confirmed as Shiny eligible among the increased World Championships wild encounters.
The featured attack is connected to the event evolution window rather than Shiny status, so regular and Shiny Alolan Sandslash can both receive Shadow Claw.

Other highlighted featured attacks include Meteor Mash for Metagross, Hydro Cannon for Feraligatr, Rage Fist for Annihilape, Brutal Swing for Hydreigon and both Powder Snow and Icicle Spear for Walrein.
When Do Alolan Sandshrew Spawns End?
Although Shadow Claw Alolan Sandslash Pokémon GO can be obtained from the beginning of PokémonXP on August 25, the increased Alolan Sandshrew wild spawns do not begin until August 28.
They end alongside the World Championships in-game event on Sunday, August 30 at 8:00 p.m. local time.
Trainers starting without an Alolan Sandshrew should therefore focus on the August 28–30 portion of the event, while anyone with one already prepared can take advantage of the
