The Rockstar Games union vote runs from 12 to 26 November 2026. UK staff will decide whether to formally recognise the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) through its Rockstar Game Workers Union. The ballot is scheduled to take place during the 19 November release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
The IWGB announced the ballot on 27 October, following recognition talks with Rockstar management. Staff are being asked to approve a formal bargaining arrangement covering employment matters such as pay, overtime and flexible working. Here’s how the vote works and what a successful agreement would mean.
Rockstar Games union vote: November 12 to 26 dates

| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 12 November | Recognition ballot opens |
| 17 to 18 November | Scheduled closing submissions in separate employment tribunal |
| 19 November | GTA VI scheduled to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S |
| 26 November | Recognition ballot closes |
The Rockstar Games union vote will be conducted anonymously online, according to the IWGB. Eligible UK employees will decide whether to approve a recognition agreement discussed with management since July. The ballot concerns who represents employees in workplace negotiations.
The proposal covers eligible staff in Rockstar’s UK workplaces. The IWGB has organised across sites including Edinburgh, Dundee, Leeds, Lincoln and London. The ballot concerns workers within the proposed agreement, not Take-Two’s worldwide workforce.
What would a successful Rockstar Games union vote change?
If staff approve recognition, the IWGB would represent covered employees in collective bargaining. That means representatives and company management would have an agreed process for negotiating employment terms. Under UK rules, recognised unions commonly discuss pay, hours, holiday and other conditions with their employer.
According to the IWGB, the proposal would allow talks over pay and bonuses, overtime, redundancies, flexible working and generative AI policies. Union representatives have also raised pensions, parental leave and transparency around workplace decisions.
A successful Rockstar Games union vote would establish a bargaining relationship, not automatically change salaries or contracts. Workers’ representatives and Rockstar would still negotiate any changes. The IWGB says this would be the largest recognised union group in the UK games industry.
What has Rockstar Games said about the union campaign?
Rockstar head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe told Bloomberg Businessweek that the company would follow employees’ wishes on union representation. She said, “If they want a union, they will have a union.”
Shanti Easton-Steel, a Rockstar Game Workers Union committee member, said the vote would help workers seek greater openness over company decisions. She cited the gender pay gap, changing overtime arrangements and concerns over job security after GTA VI launches.
How does the 2025 employment tribunal relate to the vote?
The Rockstar Games union vote is separate from an employment tribunal about the dismissal of 31 workers in October 2025. The IWGB and former employees allege the dismissals targeted union activity. They are contesting those decisions through the legal process.
Rockstar disputes the accusation. It says the employees were dismissed for gross misconduct involving confidential company information, rather than union activity. Closing submissions in the employment tribunal are scheduled for 17 and 18 November.
The tribunal concerns the 2025 dismissals. The November recognition ballot asks a different question: whether UK staff want the IWGB recognised for collective bargaining.
Will the union vote delay Grand Theft Auto VI?

The Rockstar Games union vote is not a strike ballot. It overlaps with the scheduled 19 November GTA VI launch, but Rockstar’s official store continues to list that date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Our GTA 6 release date guide has the launch platforms and timing. For the game itself, see the official launch trailer breakdown. Those articles cover the release, while the recognition ballot concerns the company’s UK employees.
When will the union vote result be known?
Voting closes on 26 November. Once ballots are counted, the outcome will determine whether employees have approved the proposed recognition arrangement.
Approval would establish formal recognition under the agreement and allow collective bargaining to proceed. Rejection would leave that proposed agreement unapproved. Neither outcome decides the employment tribunal’s case.
The next development in the Rockstar Games union vote will be the result after voting closes on 26 November. This report can then be updated with the declared outcome.
