The Rocket Racing shutdown took place on 1 October 2026. Epic Games removed the mode from Fortnite and took down creator islands built using its dedicated Rocket Racing templates. If you can no longer find the original races in Discover, this is an official removal, not a problem with your account or installation.
The good news if you’ve bought or customised cars is that your Vehicle Locker has not been deleted. Epic confirmed that players can continue using their customised cars in Fortnite. There is also still room for other racing games built by creators, although these are not the original Rocket Racing playlist.
When did the Rocket Racing shutdown happen?

Epic announced the date in its September 17 v42.20 ecosystem notes and confirmed the changes in the October 1 v42.30 update. Rocket Racing left Fortnite on that date. The shutdown removed access to the official mode rather than temporarily taking its servers down for maintenance.
The October announcement does not give players a replacement launch date or a method to restore the discontinued playlist. Reinstalling Fortnite, changing matchmaking region or searching an old shortcut will not bring that experience back.
What happened to Rocket Racing tracks after the Rocket Racing shutdown?
The Rocket Racing shutdown also affected tracks built by creators using the Rocket Racing UEFN templates. Epic unpublished those islands, made them unplayable and disabled updates to new or existing projects using the retired templates.
That explains why an island code you previously used may no longer load. It does not mean every racing island has been removed from Fortnite. The restriction is specific to the discontinued Rocket Racing template system.
If you created one of those tracks yourself, our Rocket Racing island conversion guide covers the supported path for checking an existing UEFN project and rebuilding a standard racing island.
Did the Rocket Racing shutdown delete my cars?
No. Epic says the Vehicle Locker is unaffected. Your owned vehicle customisations are still part of your Fortnite account, even though the mode where you originally raced with them is gone.
Open your Locker and check the vehicle items on the account that owns them. You can use eligible cars and customisations in Fortnite experiences that support them. Losing access to Rocket Racing itself does not mean your purchases were wiped.
The Rocket Racing shutdown announcement makes no promise of rank transfers or automatic refunds. The confirmed protection is for Vehicle Locker items, not the return of old competitions, race times or leaderboards.
Can you still play racing games in Fortnite?
Yes. Epic kept several race-building tools available to Fortnite creators, including the Track Spline Tool, Boost Pads, Volume Hazards and Spawner devices. Those tools can be used to make racing games as normal UEFN islands.
Open Discover and search for racing or driving islands. Check the description of any island before joining: an independently made track can offer different controls, vehicles, progression and rules from the original Rocket Racing mode. It is an alternative, not a renamed official playlist.
Rocket League is a separate game, too. If you were looking for the fast, competitive races from Rocket Racing, neither a Rocket League match nor a creator-made Fortnite track is an automatic continuation of your previous ranked progress.
Why did Epic remove Rocket Racing?
Epic’s official retirement information confirms what was removed and when. It does not set out a detailed public explanation for the decision. The Rocket Racing shutdown should therefore be treated as an announced retirement, rather than attributed to a supposed glitch or an unconfirmed business reason.
Two other Fortnite experiences have also been retired. Our guides to the Fortnite Ballistic removal and Festival Battle Stage closure explain what happened to those modes separately.
What to do if a vehicle is missing from your Locker
A missing vehicle item is a different issue from the Rocket Racing shutdown. Check that you’re using the Epic Games account that originally owned it, then look in the vehicle section of your Locker. If it still isn’t there, use Epic’s official account support process with the purchase or entitlement information you have.
For everyone who just wants to know where the races went: the original mode closed on 1 October 2026, template-based creator tracks followed it offline, and the cars already in your Vehicle Locker remain yours.
