Pokémon GO Power Spots are temporary map locations that emit Max Particles and can host Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon for Max Battles. Unlike Gyms and PokéStops, they are deliberately volatile: locations appear and disappear over time, and the Nearby menu shows the remaining time for an active Power Spot before it closes.
How to find Power Spots
Pokémon GO Power Spots appear directly on the map when they are active.
You can also open the Nearby menu to see local Power Spots, their distance and location details.
When a Power Spot contains a Max Battle, the Nearby view can show the boss species, battle difficulty, time remaining and whether other Trainers are waiting.
Inactive future Power Spots no longer appear on the map on most ordinary days.
What you collect from a Power Spot
Power Spots are a source of Max Particles, the resource used for Max Battles and training Max Moves.
Tap an active Pokémon GO Power Spots location and follow the current collection options shown by the game.
Max Particle earning has its own limits and event bonuses.
The spot can also host a Max Battle against a Dynamax or Gigantamax boss.
How Max Battles work
Up to four Trainers can challenge a Power Spot Boss together.
Each Trainer needs enough Max Particles and must bring eligible Max Pokémon, with teams built from Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon under the current battle rules.
Pokémon GO Power Spots deduct the required Max Particles only after a successful win.
If the group loses, you can retry the same active battle without paying another set of Max Particles for the failed attempt.
Stationing a Pokémon after a win
After defeating the Power Spot Boss, you can station an eligible Pokémon from the battle at the location.
Stationed Pokémon help future Trainers through the Power Spot’s attack bonus.
Pokémon GO Power Spots and your account both limit how many Pokémon can be stationed.
Your Pokémon eventually returns with earned Candy after its assistance ends or the spot closes.

Power Spots can improve nearby encounters
More Max Pokémon stationed at the same location can increase the support available for future battles.
Niantic also notes that having more Pokémon stationed may increase the chance of a wild Pokémon encounter around the Power Spot.
Pokémon GO Power Spots therefore have a community element even after your own battle is finished.
Leaving a Pokémon can help other local Trainers while generating a return reward for you.
When do Power Spots reset?
There is no simple universal midnight rule that every player should use for Pokémon GO Power Spots.
Each active location displays its own time remaining before it disappears, and the map population changes as locations refresh.
In February 2026, Niantic changed the Power Spot refresh interval from two days to one day, making the system more dynamic.
The safest rule is to read the timer on the specific Power Spot you plan to use.
Why a Power Spot vanished
A location disappearing is normal.
Pokémon GO Power Spots move around the map instead of staying permanently attached to one landmark.
If your stationed Pokémon was at a spot that closes or refreshes, it returns to you under the system’s rules.
Check the Today View if you want to see Pokémon currently stationed at Power Spots.
Max Mondays and event schedules
Events can change when and how many Pokémon GO Power Spots are active.
Max Monday-style windows and Max Battle Days can increase available battle activity, feature a particular boss or make more spots useful during a limited local-time window.
Do not build an evergreen route around one old event schedule.
The specific Power Spot’s visible timer and the current event announcement are more reliable than assuming every Monday or every day follows one unchanged pattern.
Power Spots are not Gyms
You do not defend them for PokéCoins and they do not belong permanently to one of the three teams.
Their purpose is Max Particles, Max Battles and stationed Max Pokémon.
That distinction makes Pokémon GO Power Spots closer to rotating battle nodes than conventional Gyms.
The map can look very different from one day to the next without any location being removed from Pokémon GO permanently.
Best way to use Power Spots
Check Nearby before leaving for a Max Battle, confirm the boss and remaining timer, collect available Max Particles and arrive with enough time to battle before the location closes.
If you win, station a useful Max Pokémon when it makes sense and monitor its return through Today View.
Pokémon GO Power Spots are intentionally temporary, so the key to using them well is following the live timer instead of memorizing one location and expecting it to behave like a permanent Gym.
