How to Unlock the Obsidian Trench in Fisch

Obsidian Trench in Fisch

If you’re trying to unlock the Obsidian Trench in Fisch, you now need to work through the full Mariana’s Awakening progression rather than simply travelling to a new entrance. The quest starts with Vaelor at Roslit Bay and sends you back through all five existing Mariana’s Veil layers before the Abyss Gate will open.

The main route to the Obsidian Trench in Fisch is to investigate the glowing mineral veins, complete the quests for Ignis, Glacius, Tenebris, Luminis and Resonus, collect their gauntlets, solve the Crevice Wall riddle and activate the five layer gems. Only then can you enter the new trench.

This is account progression rather than a simple map shortcut. The useful preparation is having the original five Mariana’s Veil layers unlocked and their layer-specific rods available for the mutation quests.

Where to start Mariana’s Awakening

Go to Roslit Bay and find Vaelor. He introduces the strange mineral veins appearing through Mariana’s Veil and sends you to investigate all five layers. This is the actual starting point for the Obsidian Trench in Fisch, so enter the new quest through Vaelor before trying to complete the descendant objectives.

The five descendants are positioned in the same areas tied to the original Veil progression: Ignis in Volcanic Vents, Glacius in Challenger’s Deep, Tenebris in Abyssal Zenith, Luminis in Calm Zone and Resonus in Veil of the Forsaken.

Why you need all five gauntlets

Each descendant gives a specialised fishing task tied to their layer. Finishing the task awards a gauntlet, and the complete set is part of the route needed to progress beyond the Crevice Wall. The first three live quest requirements are already documented in detail: Ignis uses Ashen Fortune catches, Glacius uses Chilled catches and Tenebris uses Wrath catches.

The final two descendants are Luminis in Calm Zone and Resonus in Veil of the Forsaken. Their exact live task strings are not consistently published yet, but both quests are required. The new Mariana’s Awakening progression is separate from simply having visited those layers before.

How the Crevice Wall and layer gems work

After the descendant quests, the storyline leads deeper toward the Crevice Wall. The wall contains an active riddle connected to the five layers. Solving that riddle lets you move on to the layer-gem stage rather than immediately opening the trench.

You then need to ignite all five layer gems. This is the final progression gate before the Abyss Gate opens. Once all of the required gems have been activated, the path to the Obsidian Trench in Fisch becomes available.

What happens when you enter the Obsidian Trench?

Entering the trench introduces Trench Suppression, a new environmental debuff. Glowing white crystals around the area temporarily purge suppression, so interacting with those crystals becomes part of normal exploration rather than an optional secret.

The trench also has its own 12-entry bestiary, the Veiled Charybdis encounter and the Skolopendra boss sequence. Catching several Veiled Charybdis eventually turns the trench crystals red, signalling that Skolopendra is being awakened.

What do you unlock after completing the trench?

Conquering the Obsidian Trench in Fisch and defeating Skolopendra is tied to access to the Chasm-Stalker Rod. The rod has its own mutation, strong passives and a streak system built around successful catches.

The update also adds 22 fish overall: 12 associated with the Obsidian Trench and another 10 distributed through the existing Mariana’s Veil layers. That makes completing the access quest only the beginning of the new progression.
