The Ignis Quest in Fisch is one of the five descendant tasks required for Mariana’s Awakening and the Obsidian Trench. Ignis is found in Volcanic Vents, where the quest uses the layer’s own rod and newly added mutated fish rather than generic catches.
Completing the Ignis Quest in Fisch awards the Volcanic Gauntlets. You need this gauntlet as part of the five-piece progression before solving the Crevice Wall and activating the layer gems that open the Abyss Gate.
How to complete the Ignis Quest in Fisch

Travel to Volcanic Vents and find Ignis at approximately (-3343, -2028, 4076). Speak to the NPC after starting Mariana’s Awakening through Vaelor at Roslit Bay. Equip the Volcanic Rod before working on the objectives because the quest specifies that rod.
| Objective | Bait | Season | Time | Weather |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perfect Catch 2 Ashen Fortune Charred Coelacanth | Squid | Summer or Autumn | Night | Clear |
| Catch 1 Ashen Fortune Obsidian-Plated Piranha | Worm | Summer | Day | Rain |
The mutation wording matters. Catching the right species without the required mutation will not satisfy the live objective, and any line that asks for a Perfect Catch also requires you to keep the fish inside the control bar for the full reeling minigame.
Where to find Ignis
Ignis is positioned in Volcanic Vents at roughly (-3343, -2028, 4076). If the NPC does not offer the Mariana’s Awakening task, go back to Roslit Bay and make sure you have spoken to Vaelor to begin the new questline first.
The route follows the original Mariana’s Veil progression, so having Volcanic Vents permanently unlocked before starting saves travel time. You do not need to rebuild the whole original layer progression just because the update sends you back there.
Which rod do you need?
The Ignis Quest in Fisch specifies the Volcanic Rod. Do not swap to a stronger general-purpose rod while trying to complete the mutation objectives because a catch made with the wrong rod can fail to count even when the species and mutation are correct.
Use the required rod and then optimise the rest of your setup around mutation chance, preferred bait and the fish’s conditions. That is more reliable than using a high-luck rod that does not satisfy the quest’s equipment requirement.
How to get the required mutation
The most reliable route is to keep fishing the correct layer with the required rod while the target fish’s preferred conditions are active. Because the quest wants a named mutation rather than an ordinary catch, expect to need several attempts even after you hook the correct species.
Do not sell a correct quest fish until the objective has visibly updated. The Mariana’s Awakening tasks are progression checks, and keeping the catch until the tracker advances avoids having to reproduce a rare mutated fish unnecessarily.
What do you get for completing the quest?
Return to Ignis after both objectives are complete to receive the Volcanic Gauntlets. That reward is one of the five gauntlets needed before the Obsidian Trench can be opened.
The full descendant order is Ignis, Glacius, Tenebris, Luminis and Resonus. Our all five gauntlets guide keeps the complete sequence together.

How this fits into Mariana’s Awakening
The Ignis Quest in Fisch progression is part of the September Mariana’s Awakening update, which sends players back through the existing Mariana’s Veil layers before opening the new Obsidian Trench. Keep your layer rods, bait and access routes ready because several of the new objectives deliberately reuse older Veil locations.
Once the five descendant gauntlets are complete, the quest continues through the Crevice Wall, five layer gems and the Abyss Gate. Inside the trench, Trench Suppression, Veiled Charybdis and Skolopendra become the next major systems to learn.
