The Fisch Obsidian Trench Bestiary contains 12 new catches inside the deepest Mariana’s Veil layer, while Mariana’s Awakening adds another 10 species throughout the five existing layers. That gives the update 22 new species overall.

Bait, weather and time requirements for several trench-only fish are still being mapped, so this guide separates confirmed names from conditions that are not yet reliable.

The two hidden entries are real bestiary slots, but there is no value in inventing names before players have reliably identified them. The named ten can already be used as a checklist while you work through the area.

These ten fish are important because they are not part of the 12-entry Fisch Obsidian Trench Bestiary. They expand the original layers and several are directly tied to the five descendant gauntlet quests.
Known conditions for the descendant quest fish
Charred Coelacanth prefers Squid during clear Summer or Autumn nights, while Obsidian-Plated Piranha prefers Worm during rainy Summer days. Hoarfrost Halibut prefers Fish Head during clear Winter days, and Glacial Gulper prefers Shrimp during foggy Winter nights.
Lumin-Lure Lanternfish prefers Shrimp during clear Spring or Autumn nights. Void-Drifter Jelly prefers Seaweed during foggy Autumn or Winter nights. The preferred conditions for the Calm Zone and Veil of the Forsaken additions are still less consistently documented, so use the live Bestiary rather than copying an unverified table.
How to reach the Obsidian Trench fishing area
You cannot complete the Fisch Obsidian Trench Bestiary until the area itself is unlocked. Start Mariana’s Awakening with Vaelor in Roslit Bay, complete all five descendant quests, solve the Crevice Wall riddle and activate all five layer gems to open the Abyss Gate.

What remains to be mapped?
The remaining work is the exact live catch table for the trench-only species, especially the two hidden slots and any unusual event, bait or weather requirements. Those should be added to this same URL as they become reproducible rather than creating a second bestiary page.

How this fits into Mariana’s Awakening
The Fisch Obsidian Trench Bestiary progression is part of the September Mariana’s Awakening update, which sends players back through the existing Mariana’s Veil layers before opening the new Obsidian Trench. Keep your layer rods, bait and access routes ready because several of the new objectives deliberately reuse older Veil locations.
Once the five descendant gauntlets are complete, the quest continues through the Crevice Wall, five layer gems and the Abyss Gate. Inside the trench, Trench Suppression, Veiled Charybdis and Skolopendra become the next major systems to learn.
