Modern Warfare 4 Campaign is playable now for eligible digital preorder customers, with all sixteen missions available from October 16, 2026. The story follows South Korean Private Park Hyun Jun during a North Korean invasion and Captain Price as he tracks a larger threat away from his former teammates.

The action moves between the Korean Peninsula, Paris, New York and Mumbai, including stealth sections, big battles and the semi-open Stranded mission. Completing each chapter also awards an Operator, cosmetic or XP token that becomes usable in Multiplayer and DMZ when the full game launches October 23.

What happens in the Modern Warfare 4 Campaign story?

Park and his fellow South Korean soldiers are facing a full-scale invasion, with the front lines collapsing in the opening missions. Elsewhere, Price is operating outside official channels following the fallout around General Shepherd, leaving Ghost and Gaz to pursue a former commander rather than follow his orders.

Price’s path leads into an uncomfortable alliance with former enemy Valeria Garza as he searches for whoever is directing the larger crisis. The campaign shifts perspective between those stories, which explains why a mission set on the Korean Peninsula can play very differently from a Price-led infiltration.

How long does Modern Warfare 4 Campaign take to beat?

Early reviews put a first playthrough at around six to eight hours. Your exact time will depend on difficulty, whether you watch each cutscene and how much you explore during Stranded. Activision hasn’t published one required completion time, and collecting everything takes longer than finishing the story alone.

If you mainly want the Operator rewards, finish all sixteen missions. If you’re hunting achievements, give yourself time for optional exploration. Following Orders has four notes and four pieces of contraband, while Stranded contains 26 Yellow Supply Caches and far more room to roam than most campaign chapters.

Modern Warfare 4 Campaign difficulty options and mission replay

The available starting settings include Recruit, Regular, Hardened and Veteran, with Realism and YOLO unlocked later. Replaying a completed mission is possible from Mission Select, which is helpful for achievements requiring a particular difficulty or for collectibles you missed the first time.

For example, Following Orders rewards avoiding harm to civilians while searching homes; Stranded rewards investigating caches and restoring equipment at Base Camp. The Modern Warfare 4 Campaign doesn’t require every optional achievement to be completed before you can see the ending.

What is different about the Stranded mission?

Stranded is mission ten, a larger open area where you explore outposts, bunkers, villages, towers and the SAM site while carrying out the story’s objectives. You can collect Supplies to repair weapons at the underground Base Camp, with equipment upgrades helping make later fights less punishing.

You’ll also find 26 Yellow Supply Caches, some behind numbered locks. One is carried on a train and another on a patrol truck, which explains why players may have twenty-four chests and still not know where the final two are. The Modern Warfare 4 Campaign offers more exploration here than in its linear missions.

When does the full Modern Warfare 4 Campaign launch?

Digital preorders of either the Standard or Vault Edition unlock the entire campaign from October 16 on supported PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms. DMZ Early Access follows October 20, and the full game is released October 23. Campaign access before then is a purchase benefit, not a public free trial.

Our Campaign Early Access guide covers eligibility, and the DMZ guide explains the separate mode arriving next. If you want the wider backstory, see the campaign story explanation.
