As we head into a New Year, the ferocious Team Rocket leaders are back to cause havoc, as trainers set upon the quest to beat Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo.

After defeating six Team Go Rocket Grunts, trainers can earn a Rocket Radar segment to encounter one of the trio, before finally meeting the boss, Giovanni. And for January 2023, Giovanni is returning with Shadow Mewtwo making this a month not to be missed.

How to beat Cliff January 2023 – Best Counters

The key to defeating any leader is all in the preparation beforehand. When entering battle with a strong team of Pokemon, the leaders are easy to destroy.

Cliff will begin his fight using the Fighting type Pokemon Machop. However, the rest of his battle will be randomized using a select assortment of Pokemon, with no guarantees of which Pokemon will appear.

Round two for January 2023 will be one of the following Pokemon:

  • Crobat
  • Pinsir

The third round will end with a battle between any of the following Pokemon:
