PUBG Mobile: New Battle Pass system is a bit of a scam

PUBG and PUBG Mobile are known to be innovative titles on their respective platforms. When PUBG first introduced the Battle Pass system to their PC game, it was quite literally industry-changing. We now see them pop up all over the place! Recently, PUBG Mobile opted to change things up again by introducing a new Battle Pass system.

It’s not a bad idea, but there is one issue… It’s going to cost you a little bit more going forwards. Why isn’t there more of an outcry? Here’s why.

New Battle Pass System Slyly Increases Costs

Prior to the 1.5 Title Update, PUBG Mobile’s seasons ran for around two months and offered up a Battle Pass that would cost 600 UC. Like any other Battle Pass you see, there were 100 ranks to get through and a series of cosmetic rewards to unlock. It became the industry standard, but at the time of inception, it was a new feature.

Now, though, PUBG Mobile has opted to introduce a new Battle Pass system that doesn’t follow the seasonal timetable. Rather, the Royale Pass has been replaced by the Royale Pass Month. This is a one-month Battle Pass that’s shorter and cheaper.

As it offers 50 Ranks instead of 100 Ranks, and it will only be available for one month instead of two months, you’d think it would be half the price, right?

It actually costs 360 UC. This is, of course, a huge discount from 600 UC but it will end up costing you more in the long run. The structure of the rewards on offer is being changed about a bit and there’s going to be a new Challenge Point system, but this all distracts from the fact that PUBG Mobile’s Battle Pass is going to cost you more in the long run.

Of course, you’re not forced to purchase it and that’s where any arguments seem to end. However, if someone like Activision tried to do the same to Warzone… The uproar would be never-ending. Why does Tencent get a pass, then?
