Pokemon Go: How to defeat Delcatty, weakness and counters

Delcatty is making plenty of appearances during Fashion Week, but do you know the weakness and counters of the Prim Pokemon?

Delcatty is one of few Pokemon that is likely less well known than its pre-evolved form, Skitty. While Skitty enjoys a community position of being a beloved cutesy-style Pokemon, Delcatty doesn’t quite have the same level of popularity – do not underestimate it in battle, however; Delcatty has a fairly varied move pool and very few outright counters, making it a viable PvP choice in surprising matchups.

What counters Delcatty in Pokemon Go?

If you’re familiar with the Pokemon series, you’ll know by now that certain types have either (or both) of a damage advantage or incoming damage reduction in certain matchups, known as super effective and not very effective respectively. Delcatty is a Normal-Type Pokemon, which means it mostly doesn’t interact with this system and just takes the usual damage rate of 100% in almost all cases.

This makes it surprisingly durable – Normal-Typing is part of why it takes so long to beat Snorlax or Slaking, aside from their health pools. The problem is, if you want to beat Delcatty quickly, that’s quite annoying.

Fortunately, there is one type that’ll help you deal with Delcatty quickly – Fighting-type Pokemon. You see, the only types Normal-types interact with are Fighting-types, whom they are weak to, and ghost-types, who they have incredible resistance against. Basically, no spooky antics, just go straight to punching.

Of course, we’ll also take a look to see what moves Delcatty has to see if there’s anything else to be aware of here, but Fighting-Type is our clear winner for most damage dealt regardless, as the only type with an increased damage modifier.

Delcatty uses primarily Fairy-type attacks, which comprise half of the total moves. With that said, Delcatty is also capable of Electric-type, Dark-type and Psychic-type attacks. This moveset is in all honestly, quite the problem. Both Fairy-types and Psychic-types are known to counter Fighting-types, meaning Delcatty in Pokemon Go has 4 attacks that are good against its only counter type.

In short, the biggest weakness of Delcatty remains Fighting-type attacks – if you have a Pokemon with Fighting moves that isn’t a Fighting-type, it might be your best bet for a Delcatty counter. Absolutely avoid using Ghost-types due to their incredibly low damage in this matchup.

Anything else to mention?
