Pokemon Go: How to defeat Furfrou, weakness and counters

Furfrou, the Poodle Pokemon of many forms and trims, has made its way into Pokemon Go, but what are its counters and what is its weakness?

This shorthand guide is designed to help you defeat Furfrou whenever you encounter it, be it during Fashion week 2021 or in a distant future where it’s being used in PvP for inexplicable reasons.

What counters Furfrou in Pokemon Go?

If you’re familiar with the Pokemon series, you’ll know by now that certain types have either (or both) of a damage advantage or incoming damage reduction in certain matchups, known as super effective and not very effective respectively. Furfrou is a Normal-Type Pokemon, which means it mostly doesn’t interact with this system and just takes the usual damage rate of 100%.

But if you want to beat Furfrou quickly, that’s annoying.

Fortunately, there is one type that’ll help you deal with Furfrou quickly – Fighting-type Pokemon. You see, the only type Normal-types have are a weakness to Fighting-type attacks and a doubled resistance to Ghost-type attacks.

In other words, don’t try to spook it, just tell Machamp to start punching.

Of course, we’ll also take a look to see what moves Furfrou has to see if there’s anything else to be aware of here, but Fighting-Type is our clear winner for most damage dealt regardless, as the only type with an increased damage modifier.

Furfrou is capable of 6 attacks in total, 3 fast and 3 charged. Of these, 3 are Dark-type, one is Normal, and the others are Grass and Water-type moves. So if you can’t field a Fighting-type against Furfrou in Pokemon Go to exploit the type weakness, make sure to at least avoid anything that’ll suffer against Dark-types, as you’ll be in for a bad time with that matchup.

In short, the biggest weakness will be Fighting-types, but if you can’t manage that much at least be sure to avoid Ghost and Psychic-type Pokemon unless you want to be the one countered by Furfrou in Pokemon go instead.
