Hearthstone C’Thun 37.0.2 changes give C’Thun, Eye of the Empire a bigger finish while weakening the cards that get it there. Once all four abilities have triggered, C’Thun now quadruples their effects instead of tripling them. Wrath, Domain and Servants of C’Thun are weaker, and several Warlock combos have been toned down too.
Blizzard says C’Thun was outperforming the other Old Gods. Rather than weaken its final effect, the November 3 update makes the build-up less powerful. Here’s what changed on each card, including the Mana costs and stats that matter when you’re updating a deck.
Hearthstone C’Thun 37.0.2 changes: C’Thun now quadruples its abilities
You still need to trigger all four C’Thun abilities in a game. Meeting that condition is what turns the Old God’s effects from three times their usual value to four times. Drawing or playing C’Thun on its own doesn’t activate the bonus.
It’s a bigger reward for finishing the setup, but it doesn’t make those early turns easier. That’s the main trade-off behind the Hearthstone C’Thun 37.0.2 changes.

Wrath, Domain and Servants of C’Thun nerfs
The three biggest support-card nerfs are easy to spot. Wrath now deals one less damage, Domain gives its targets one less Health, and Servants summons smaller Taunt minions.
| Card | Old | New |
|---|---|---|
| Wrath of C’Thun | 7 damage randomly split among enemies | 6 damage randomly split among enemies |
| Domain of C’Thun | Two other friendly minions gain +2/+3 | Two other friendly minions gain +2/+2 |
| Servants of C’Thun | Summon two 2/3 Fanatics with Taunt | Summon two 2/2 Fanatics with Taunt |
You might still run all three, but those small reductions can change a board clear, a trade or whether your Taunts survive an enemy’s next turn.
Hearthstone C’Thun 37.0.2 changes for Warlock
Blizzard also targeted Warlock, one of C’Thun’s strongest classes before the patch. M.O.T.H.E.R. now costs 10 Mana instead of 9, and Divergence costs 7 instead of 5. Ritual of Summoning produces two 2/4 C’thraxxi rather than two 3/5 minions. You’ll need to rethink turns that previously relied on those cheaper spells or stronger bodies.
Bat Mask now works only on a friendly non-Legendary minion. It still sets the target to 1/1 and fills your board with copies, but the Legendary-copy interactions have been removed. That’s a change to which targets are allowed, not merely a reduction in the number of copies.
| Card | Old | New |
|---|---|---|
| M.O.T.H.E.R. | 9 Mana | 10 Mana |
| Divergence | 5 Mana | 7 Mana |
| Ritual of Summoning | Two 3/5 C’thraxxi | Two 2/4 C’thraxxi |
| Bat Mask | Any friendly minion | A friendly non-Legendary minion |
Godfather Kazakus also has three weaker results. Spurious Shiv now grants +2/+2 to minions in hand and on the battlefield, down from +3/+3. Criminal Contract summons three random 2-Cost minions rather than 3-Cost minions. Sentenced for Smuggling takes one card from your opponent’s hand instead of two.
The Warlock adjustments are aimed at specific powerful interactions. They don’t change every card in the class, but they do affect the turns where those combos used to be strongest.

Other support changes and full Dust refunds
One piece of support got better: Dark Deacon now needs just one Shadow spell cast while it’s in your hand, down from two, before its Battlecry can trigger a chosen C’Thun ability. That’s worth remembering if you’re comparing which cards to keep after the nerfs.
Several changed cards qualify for full Arcane Dust refunds for two weeks after Patch 37.0.2 on November 3. Blizzard also names five C’Thun support cards: Gargantuan Slitherer, Ritual of C’Thun, Tentacle Lash, Watch Over and Dark Deacon. Check the amount shown in your collection before disenchanting anything.
Spawn of C’Thun is the exception. A bug prevents its full refund in Patch 37.0.2, and Blizzard says it becomes eligible starting with Patch 37.2. There is no confirmed release date for that later patch in the November 3 notes.
Should you still play C’Thun after the patch?
After these Hearthstone C’Thun 37.0.2 changes, the final payoff is stronger, but reaching it safely may be harder. Wrath no longer deals seven damage, Servants’ Taunts have less Health, and some Warlock turns cost more Mana.
The patch notes don’t give a new ladder ranking, so there’s no basis for declaring the deck dead or calling one class the automatic winner. Test whether your version can survive long enough to land the fourfold effect before spending Dust on replacements.
