Heal Pokémon without Potions by using a few built-in Pokémon GO mechanics, although none replaces a good supply of healing items for everyday play. Evolving a Pokémon can fully restore it, Mega Evolution can fully heal a compatible Pokémon, and a power-up that increases maximum HP can sometimes bring a fainted Pokémon back above 0 HP.
Pokémon do not heal over time
The first thing to know when trying to heal Pokémon without Potions is that waiting does nothing. Pokémon GO has no passive HP regeneration and no map-based Pokémon Center where injured Pokémon recover automatically.
A Pokémon left at 12 HP overnight will still be at 12 HP the next morning. A fainted Pokémon remains fainted until a mechanic changes its HP or you use a Revive. That makes the following workarounds useful only in specific situations.
Evolving can fully restore a Pokémon
If an injured or fainted Pokémon can still evolve, evolving it can restore its HP as part of the evolution process. This is one of the cleanest ways to heal Pokémon without Potions when you already intended to evolve that exact Pokémon anyway.
Do not waste Candy evolving a poor Pokémon purely to save one Potion. Evolution is permanent, and some Pokémon need rare Candy totals or special requirements. The trick is best used when healing and your existing evolution plan happen to line up.
Mega Evolution can restore HP
Mega Evolving an eligible Pokémon can also restore it, including a fainted Pokémon. This makes Mega Evolution a useful emergency option for a raid attacker that can Mega Evolve and that you wanted to activate anyway.
The catch is obvious: not every species can Mega Evolve, the first Mega Evolution costs species-specific Mega Energy, and only one Mega-Evolved Pokémon can be active at a time. It is a clever way to heal Pokémon without Potions, but not a general healing system.
The power-up revive trick
Powering up can increase a Pokémon’s maximum HP. If the Pokémon is fainted at 0 HP and the power-up raises its HP stat, the new maximum can give it a small amount of current HP as well, effectively reviving it without using a Revive.
This does not fully heal Pokémon without Potions. It usually leaves the Pokémon with only a tiny amount of HP and costs Stardust plus Candy. It is most useful when you have Potions but no Revives, because once the Pokémon is above 0 HP a Potion can be used normally.
Max Revives skip Potions entirely
A Max Revive is still a healing item, but it is worth separating from Potions because it restores a fainted Pokémon directly to full HP. If your real problem is that you have Revives but no Potions, use Max Revives only on fainted Pokémon rather than spending a normal Revive first.
It is not technically a way to heal Pokémon without Potions for free, but it avoids the two-item Revive-plus-Potion process and is often the fastest raid recovery option.
Gym defending does not heal Pokémon
Placing a Pokémon in a Gym is not a free recovery method. Motivation decreases while it defends, and when another team knocks it out the Pokémon returns fainted rather than fully healed.
Feeding Berries at a Gym restores motivation, not the Pokémon’s normal inventory HP. If your goal is to heal Pokémon without Potions, defending a Gym will not solve it and may create another fainted Pokémon that needs attention.

Buddy walking does not restore HP
Buddy Candy, Buddy hearts and walking distance also do not heal battle damage. A Best Buddy can gain a CP boost while it is your active Buddy, but that is not a replacement for HP recovery.
Likewise, putting a Pokémon into storage, changing Buddies or waiting for a new day will not heal Pokémon without Potions. Only actual HP-changing mechanics or healing items matter.
When the tricks are worth using
Use evolution if you already planned to evolve that Pokémon. Use Mega Evolution if the Pokémon is an important Mega you intended to activate. Use one power-up only when a fainted attacker is urgently needed and you have no Revives.
For normal play, the better long-term answer is stocking healing items by spinning Gyms, opening Gifts and claiming research rewards. The tricks to heal Pokémon without Potions are excellent emergency tools, but spending rare Candy or huge amounts of Stardust to avoid a common healing item is almost never efficient.
