Unity to set up joint venture with big companies in China

Unity Software Inc is best known for games like Ori And The Blind Forest, Cuphead, and Call of Duty: Mobile through its Unity game engine.

The US-based video game software development company plans to expand and dominate its Asian market. This joint venture of the company with big names in China is set to be valued at $1 billion.

According to a Reuters report, partners to join the venture will include China Mobile Ltd, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, OPPO, ByteDance’s Douyin Group, PCI Technology Group Co Ltd, and G-Bits Network Technology Xiamen Co Ltd. However, the company clarified that it would retain majority ownership and control of the Chinese joint venture.

Unity China, as the joint venture is being called, will focus on local custom versions of Unity’s games. They will also be the exclusive distributor of the games and services in China.

There has been no released information of any game titles that they might be eyeing, but miHoYo already working with Unity, so we can expect something similar to Genshin Impact.
