If you’re tired of competitive and stressful games, TOEM: A Photo Adventure might be the wholesome game you should play. The upcoming title by the indie company Something We Made is arriving in September, and its vibe is so relaxing that it makes you want to at least try it out.
Simplicity at its best
In this game, you play the role of a tourist traveling through Scandinavian-inspired regions such as the small port of Stanhamn, where you can take your time to just enjoy the views, the music and the nice figures you’ll find along the way.
There’s no combat, and the objectives are pretty simple, going from doing quick fetch quests such as helping a citizen finding a lost object or just taking all the photos you want. You’re free to experience all the delightful surprises the game has reserved for you.

A retro vibe
The game is completely in black and white. That, alongside the classic cartoon-inspired designs (which was a successful formula for Cuphead) gives the feeling of visiting an old friend. It’s like you’re both enjoying the good time without having to worry about the next day.
All the visuals in the game exhale this comfy vibe, and moments like the bus travels are incredibly pleasing. Patiently waiting for your next stop while listening to some relaxing music was never so good.

The Photo Adventure and the TOEM phenomenon
You do have a final objective: To experience the TOEM phenomenon. To do so, you must climb to the highest peak to understand it by yourself. But again, the game is all about the trip, and not the destination, so enjoy your ride.
All the photos you take will be saved on your album. These will be recordations of the good times you had while exploring the region. Take your time, go for your perfect shots and create all the good memories you’re capable of.
TOEM: A Photo Adventure will be available on September 17 for PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. The pre-ordering is already available for Switch, and you can play a free demo on Steam.
