Potential Nier Replicant Switch port rumored

Nier Replicant has been the most refreshing way to experience the original Nier; you don’t have to fiddle with old consoles or shell out money for a copy on the PS3 or Xbox 360. It’s a really great way to experience the original story in my opinion. As it is right now, Nier Replicant is available on every major platform save for one, the Nintendo Switch. This doesn’t come as a surprise to many because the Switch doesn’t receive every single major third-party release that its competitors do, but that wouldn’t stop people from clamouring for a Nier Replicant port for the Switch.

Obviously, in an ideal world, you would be able to play almost any prestigious third-party game while on the toilet; alas, this isn’t the case, as the Switch has only received a couple of notable third-party games, like DOOM, The Witcher 3, and Alien Isolation (this one shocked me the most). There have been more third-party releases lately, but if you only own a Switch, you’re probably left feeling cold when it comes to big releases like Nier Replicant.

Of course, it came from Reddit

Well, as is the internet, Reddit has conjured up some potential rumblings of a Nier Replicant port for the Switch. As is common for these kinds of rumors, according to some data mining and old Amazon listings, a Switch port for Nier Replicant was or is in the works. Now, from my own experiences with these kinds of rumours, I don’t put too much stock into them unless a trusted source verifies them to any degree.

Unless some notable source, like a journalist with extensive connections or a leaker with a track record of getting things right, can confirm such rumours, I don’t get too excited. It’s the kind of approach you have to take when it comes to getting excited on the internet, as it’s really easy to get caught up in the excitement for what could be.

Depression on the go?

Datamining games for information on updates, upcoming content, or even future ports is nothing new, so a port of Nier Replicant isn’t completely out of the question. However, it’s important to keep expectations measured and really consider how likely it is for Nier to come out on a Nintendo console. Given that the Switch got The Witcher 3 to run on it (albeit with some compromises) I think there’s a chance that a Nier game can arrive on the Switch.

The Switch community is vast and passionate, so I imagine that many people that have opted into only owning a Switch would be ecstatic at the idea of having something like Nier on the go. Its nature as an unconventional open-world action RPG would be enticing to have on the go.

Here’s to hoping you can be depressed while playing on the toilet sometime in the future.
